Time to start a new gallery, I guess. I've a bunch more stuff scanned.

This inspired by watching old episodes of The Muppet Show, and its sketch "Pigs in Space".

This literally came to me as I was waking out of sleep.

I've recently had a deep and profound revelation about the nature of chans, Fchan particularly. It came about when I uploaded the items to this thread in /artist/. I uploaded the same pieces (and a few more) to FurAffinity at the same time. I got 400 replies of one sort or another in around 36 hours. Most were "watches" and "faves", a handful were notices of art posted by people I was watching, but around 100 were actual comments, with words in them and everything. In the same 36 hours the number of responses to the same material here was zero.

If I were more of a clod than I think I am, I might come to the conclusion that you people don't appreciate the sublime genius that I am. Fortunately I think a little deeper than that. I recall one person saying something like, "well, what can we say, except that's cool, over and over." (Not to me, he said that, but it was said.)

That's where my revelation comes in. There actually is no reason why people can't say "that's cool" over and over again. Why not? That is essentially what some people on FurAffinity say, over and over.

The real reason, I've come to suspect, is that FA is a site mainly for the artists themselves, who enjoy telling each other how cool their stuff is, and being told in return how cool their's is. It doesn't seem like a waste of time to have both hands on the keyboard. Fchan on the other hand, and probably all other chans (whatever exactly they are), seem to be for the fans. (Don't get me going on whether fans and artists can be the same people, of course they can!) What I mean is that people who upload to Fchan are doing no more than sharing their favourite art with other fans. It isn't usually theirs and no thanks are needed. When there's a response, it's usually impersonal, such as "that's hawt" or "moar". The artist is assumed not to be listening, and may have no idea his (or her) work is appearing in Fchan.

To summarize, FurAffinity is a peer group site. Fchan is a user site. Having had a little experience now with both, they seem to be a world apart.

Part of it may also be the propensity for conversation to generate drama; if we're usually silent, it's because we're afraid one little slip in one comment may start up a minor shit-storm. At least it seems to me, that unless there's something that really needs to be said, it's usually better to be safe than sorry.

If we're being conversational... nice art! I really like the clean style. 985 and 987 particularly; they manage to be really quite sexy without throwing out lots of bits and areas - not that I dislike bits and areas, but it's nice to see a more subtle, quieter sexy.

The way I look at it, FurAffinity serves its function, Fchan serves another, and that's fine. But I have been feeling a measure of Been-There, Done-That-itis here in Fchan.

Whatever you do in Fchan is swept away eventually. That's its strength and its weakness. On the one hand, you do relatively little harm to artists by posting their work when it can be counted on dropping off the bottom of the page in a month or so. But that same facet of Fchan's character means you can't create anything of lasting value. You put up a survey of some popular cartoon series, or a collection of the best Lola Bunny, and its gone in a month too.

The bottom line is you have to decide how to use the tools for the job they're best suited for.

The way I see it, if your art is posted on fchan by other people, it's already a testament of how good the art is - the fact that it has been saved and shared around.

I personally see no reason to need 483587435543875 threads for art. o_o

>>984 The threads and different pages have always posed a bit of a problem for me. I'd have six pics of Gadget to post, but one of them couldn't be posted with the others because it was nude, or it wasn't nude, or there was a guy in the background, or she wasnm't eating Ritz crackers, or whatever. But its a minor thing.

personally i liked e621 before thy died,as i could type keywords such as "Taral" "deer" "butt" and poof, instant eye candy. i suppose FA would have a similar system, but they've gotten so big it crippled there searchability due to the limits of type of server system there using. so its not so much a user site these days.
but don't discount fchan just yet,id have never known your name in the first place if it wasn't for this little blue section of webdom.
new people discover things in all kinds of odd places of the internet everyday,it seems to pay more to be in many places than to "totally" focus on a single one, thats how people find out about you, than if they decide to research into it some, maybe they find theres a primary site that has what they wanted to find out about.
while id encourage you to keep a archive online in some place like FA where it wont go kaput,
id definitely say you shouldn't disappear from places like fchan,or lots of your potential fans that haven't discovered you yet never will.
it lets you get noticed,at the same time letting you funnel all your fans into the site your paying the most attention to. just add the link to your sig or something.

p.s if your actually back here and reading this,im having a shortage of deer butt picts thanks to the loss of my favorite search engine (hint hint)

Thinking about what you said... I suspect many fans don't think about the artist as much as they should. New to the genre, or just thoughtless. I also agree with your comments that fans then to be unsure what they can say. Perhaps a certain reluctance to try to actually talk to someone important or famous. (You are important and famous aren't you?) And then, so many images on f-chan are not posted by the original artist that it's too easy to assume that none of them are. That leads to a certain mob-mentality. Sort of "I'm not 'cause nobody else is."

Anyway... I have seen your work before and enjoyed it. I am found of DiD images, and your quicksand work is close to my fetish of asphyxia. So: Thank you for making your images available.
