Art critique and advice; beginner artists are welcome to post here; includes an oekaki. (NO FLAMES)

Artists, read before posting!

Before you post your art to ask for critique, please read these tutorials. They explain the basic principles of drawing and figure drawing. Most posts where these basics are missing will never get a response, as people are quite frankly sick and bored of explaining over and over that you would have to pretty much learn how to draw first, before you could improve.

These were brought to my attention by Aeresque#Artist. Courtesy of Scribd: Drawing the Human head, Drawing Dynamic Hands, Dynamic Figure Drawing
And for those of you who want it a bit easier, we also have the whole thing as one neat rar with all three books in pdf form.

NEW! These were brought to my attention by MajorTom in #fchan. Courtesy of Andrew Loomis: Creative Illustration, Drawing the Head and Hands, Eye Of The Painter, Figure drawing for all it's worth, Fun with a Pencil, Successful Drawing, Drawing Dynamic Hands.

If you think you know a good basic tutorial that would fit in here, feel free to contact me under Xenofur in IRC and I will add the link.

Alright guys, I just finished this last night and would like some critique. It's the first piece of furry art I've ever really applied myself to for a whole although I'm not saying exactly how much time this took me as it's kinda' embarrassing. I'm mostly satisfied with the results though.

If I ever decide on the setting, I'll probably shade it and give it a background. For now, flat color is as good as it's going to get.

Oh, yes, I already know I forgot the tail. I hadn't decided where I wanted it when I was working on it, figured I'd add it when I was inking it in Photoshop... I forgot... Oops.

Disregard the trace hahaha

It's not a trace. It was based on a reference shot though, one that I took myself.

Man, your peen sure is tiny.
Or whichever poor kid it was you bribed with candy to drop his shorts.

Head's oversized unless you're aiming for a 12-year-old's physique.

Huh. Didn't realize about the head size. Going to give that some thought.

Also, not everyone is overly-endowed when flaccid. Although I will admit that that was the first time I've ever tried to draw a sheath and the angle threw me a bit.

Learn the cardinal rule.
Do not draw explicit nudes or porn until you've mastered clean art.

This fandom has enough shittily drawn cock and ass as it is, don't add to the disease anymore than, or Deatzh will strike you down like the eternal nub that you are.

where's the neck?
why does it have no neck?

Why did you steal bolt's face and beat it up?

No.261 - Link Reply Report 261

It wasn't intended as an explicit nude really. The fact that he is naked came mostly from the fact that I just can't draw clothes. At all. The folds just throw me so bad I didn't feel like posting my attempt.

Also, if his face resembles Bolt's (who?) at all, it is purely coincidental.

And you somehow justified adding the shitty penis... why?

No.272 - Link Reply Report 272

First and foremost, I apologize in any case that I am terribly unclear, come off as bitchy (more than normal?), if I use too many commas and/or verbs. Prose has not had a front seat in my recent dealings, so it's... out of practice.

On with this trash.
As mentioned by Anon, the head is a bit big. I'm a little bothered by the muzzle shape. Do a google image-search on whatever species you're most strongly basing this from, there should be something there to reference. Or if you have a larger dog (I get the feeling it's something somewhat similar to a large canine head), reference from his/her face.
The outer edges around the eyes seem rather round too, and the forehead seems a tad on the small side. Ultimately, it's not stylistically unappealing, but you should stick with the grounds of realism right now.

I don't really have any gripes about the shoulders. You referenced from a photo of yourself? Did a fairly decent job of following the form and contour with it, supposing you didn't throw any tracing in there (and even if you did I can't say I really give a damn, as you've stated you have and if it's a photo of you it's not using anyone else's work anyway).

Careful with the foreshortening. I get the forearms, but they do look a little awkward. It's pretty natural that they do look weird at a straight-on angle though.

Now, unless - and even if - you have the archetype of male bodies (triangle, base being from shoulder to shoulder and the legs being angled downward toward the crotch), the shoulders are a bit wide in comparison with the hips. The legs seem really small too, with the knees being tiny when compared to the shoulders. They're closer to us, and when legs are folded knees are of comparable size to the shoulder, so should appear of equivalent or larger size.

Toes feel awkward, particularly on his right foot. Too much line definition, really flattens their appearance.

There isn't anything about this image that is particularly explicit, and the penis exists, even if we'd prefer to not emphasize it in the case of cleaner art. Really no reason to get all hyped about it.

Now I'm not really versed in the way of drawing dogdick, but it looks to me like the sheath goes a bit far down onto the scrotum, and that the scrotum might be a little high? Pink showing is probably a tad unnecessary, but whatever.

Keep a study of clothing in mind, but keep working on the basic anatomy junk. Skeletal system, muscular, fatty deposits, therefore how the flesh lays, and proportion (also different sorts of proportion, because variety is delicious). The Loomis stuff at the top is helpful, but do keep in mind that Loomis is not God.
