Art critique and advice; beginner artists are welcome to post here; includes an oekaki. (NO FLAMES)

Artists, read before posting!

Before you post your art to ask for critique, please read these tutorials. They explain the basic principles of drawing and figure drawing. Most posts where these basics are missing will never get a response, as people are quite frankly sick and bored of explaining over and over that you would have to pretty much learn how to draw first, before you could improve.

And for those of you who want it a bit easier, we also have the whole thing as one neat rar with all three books in pdf form.

If you think you know a good basic tutorial that would fit in here, feel free to contact me under Xenofur in IRC and I will add the link.

First Freya Pic

So a friend of mine got me playing FFIX for the first time and I was finally introduced to Freya. Don't get me wrong I knew the character existed but I never knew from what game.

So after checking out some pictures that other furry artist have drawn of her. I decided to give her a try. So here's a pic of Freya in fairly basic attire. I wasn't exactly sure how the rest of her accessories would fit while having her red overcoat flowing in the wind like that; so I left them off.

Just wanted to know what you folks thought of it thus far and as the board suggests; any critique is welcome. This pic will eventually be colored but for now I greyscaled her red coat so you could see the pic a little better with the added contrast.

Be gentle with me. ^_^

Shortly after posting the pic above. I realized I made her right leg too short than her left. So here's the pic after the fix.

x_x Sorry about that.

I know, I know. I'm not messing with the line art anymore after this. I fixed that leg one last time and I swear this time I'm done. >.>

Next time I post I'll have color in it, promise.

I have to admit, I liked the leg how it was before you 'fixed' it. It was a little small, but it appeared much more comfortable and natural.

Head is a bit big, proportionally. Should be shrunk a little.

The blowing coat is kind of confusing. It doesn't seem to match between her sleeves and the back. Either the sleeves should show direction, or the back should be down a significant amount.

Now the thing that stands out the most in this, at least for what feels off, is the hand work. The far one is too small, even for the perspective (it feels absolutely tiny next to her breast, and even if she's pulling something more than C her hands would still be of comparable size to them - speaking of the breast, the far one goes up too far atop the pec, making it look larger than the one close to us), and the near one is at a rather bad angle. There is no pressure from her hand on that staff and the wrist would have to be twisted to a breaking point to achieve that particular angle.

Perspective of the tip of the spearthing feels off too, at least at the portions where we're seeing more than one side of it.

Also mild redline. Arrows indicate size changes, except for the obnoxious one pointing to the hand. I wouldn't say to follow the hand I drew to a T, but it's closer to a more comfortable idea.

And I just noticed her navel is way low.
