I'll use this thread to ask you questions to help me make design decisions of fchan and also to allow all of you to make suggestion.

First Question: Did any of you ever actually use the alternative css styles that were available?

Nekoji_Archaos at 9 Dec 2005: 07:53

Nope.

3Report
Intarweb at 9 Dec 2005: 07:57

Never

I actually thought those were links to other imageboards, until I clicked on one of them by accident

I didn't use any of them, though

5Report
at 9 Dec 2005: 08:19

I don't think I even noticed them. >>;

6Report

Xenofur at 9 Dec 2005: 08:33

ok, unless a substantial number of people speaks up for them until i'm done rebuilding i will delete these options

8Report

Well.. what exactly did they do?

Xenofur at 9 Dec 2005: 08:38

go there: http://wakaba.c3.cx/sup/ and click any of these links: Board look: Blue Moon Futaba Headline Pseud0ch Toothpaste

Actually.. there's the potential I might use those. I don't like them all, however. Just the current style and that "Blue Moon" one. I'd be tempted to use that.

Ok, how about this:
Download the current CSS-file: http://fchan.hentaiplanet.net/skin/boston/style.css
Mod it however you like.
Send it via E-Mail to me and i'll include it with a menu.

Same with the image-board css files, for which i will later put up a template to experiment with.

I seriously suck at that kind of thing. I just don't have the patience to learn a language like that. I studied Latin in school, but any kind of programming language makes my head hurt. I'd make a better lawyer or doctor, just keep your new fangled electronic gadgets away from grandpa! ::flails arms::

I never even knew they were there.  I do tend to just use whatever the board puts up as standard though.  Mostly because I get used to one style and then other styles look wrong.

And I tend to be to lazy to just make my own color scheme on boards that offer the ability to do so <.<

Base stylr is fine for me. Only thing I would ask changed is that bar thing on the right for the collapsable threads. Great idea, but keep it gone when it gets closed.

I used the Burichan style.

17Report
at 9 Dec 2005: 16:49

Agree with 16, Burichan style was best for browsing.

18Report
at 9 Dec 2005: 18:49

I visit fchan for the pictures, not the HTML code. Simple, lean, and functional is best. Other than that, it doesn’t really matter to me.

19Report
at 9 Dec 2005: 19:27

I used one of the alternate stylesheets, the last one in the list (I think) that was grey with orange.

20Report
William Earl Haskell at 9 Dec 2005: 22:39

I'm still trapped in dialup country, so as far as html is concerned simple is better. I find the floating tag that blocks whatever it gets in front of rather annoying, and the options fairly useless.

21Report
Random Viewer at 9 Dec 2005: 23:34

I don't know... that floating tag thing was ok.  It functioned well, but it did get in the way now and then.  Only used in /a/ thou... come to think of it.

But I'm with William on this; keep it simple for the poor sods on dial-up.  Plz?

>>12 (looks at the css)
Holy crap... uh, it's been awhile since I looked at Cascading Style Sheet code.  All I know was that it was a pain to get it to work on all browsers when I worked on it.

Ah heck with it, I'll let some other code monkey do it. (nothing person :p)

Btw, who coded the current style that the board is using now?  It looks noticeably better than the default one that we had.  I say default because I never really used the style change links that were on the page.

22Report

I didn't know they existed until now.

Xenofur - your CSS is a mess! ;-p

Never used the CSS thing, but I love the floating box that let me collapse threads.

Fatal_glory_128 at 10 Dec 2005: 15:24

Floatbox = Good Idea, bad design and implimentation.
Css = Good, but I never ended up using them...

as for someone else doing css work, I could do that.  If anyone needs, just fire me off an e-mail.  fatalglory128@yahoo.com
