I know that asking for a source for a commercial comic on the m board is a nono, so how does one find out the source without getting in trouble with the mods??

you can ask where you can buy it.

Well, I saw a partial comic in M by Adam Wan, and there were no source comments, so I thought I should ask about it in D, because I thought it was improper to ask on the pic board.

nah, that's alright, as long as you're asking/providing legit sources there are no problems :)

As long as you aren't saying, "Can you send it to me?" or "Here is my email!" then it's all right. I personally take threads with illegal distribution and file sharing very seriously, as it's been impressed upon me to do so.

HOWEVER.. with that said, it is always possible for something in such a thread to be taken out of context, so there's nothing wrong with asking about it. But it's always good to err on the side of caution and to ask specifically for a link to a place -selling- the comic, that way there is little room for misunderstanding.
