Well you need the latest version of Mozilla Firefox for this, not sure how to do it in internet explorer.
First go to your tools settings, then click on options.
Click on downloads and you will see a button on the bottom of the box that says "View and Edit Actions...".
Click on that and you will see a couple of diffrent file types come up.
Find the files you would rather download then stream off of the internet and your done.

I am posting this because alot of people constantly ask how to save to their hard drives and its sort of annoying me

That doesnt make much sense, you can still watch them in FireFox or Mozilla.
Though you know, theres a flash player program too that does fullscreen stuff even.
Ive never had a problem playing Flash files (.swf) in firefox and mozilla and the flash player works fine too. Must be your plugins dude :P
Cant stand IE personaly.

Also, another tip for those who want to grab flash files. Just try viewing the source of the page. A good right click on the background will give you the context menu and there should be a view source selection.
Choose that then while viewing it hit ctrl+F and search for all ".swf" in the source.
Might take a few search next hits but it should be obvoius what .swf your looking for. Say when looking at a strong bad episode you'll find a "SBemil112.swf" like file (not actual filename) and the "Shockwave.swf" file is obvoiusly not what your looking for.
Next is to figure out the URL since the source URL might look like, "/Episodes/SBemail112.swf". In this case it should be obvoius that all you gotta do is append that to the current URL you went to to view the flash. Then with the complete URL you can view it directly without the page. Though there are a view ways to force a web browser to downlaod the file, its easier to jsut use a download manager like DAP or one of those nifty extensions for firefox with is a download manager too xD

This is a complicated way to do it, but its very effective and you dont have to change your options each time you want to see the flash normaly. Though for 56kers it means ya gotta download the file twice since you'll have to see the flash on the page first. Though if your fast enough you can grab the URL and ditch the page while you downlaod it directly.

Oh and I think the flashplayer will take URLs too if you wanna play them directly that way, but Im not too sure about it, never  botherd to try it.

Just right-click and "save target as..."

If it's embedded into a page, view the source, find the filename, put it in the address bar, then go to File > Save As.

That's all you need to do.  Works on both IE and Firefox

Alternatively, in Firefox, you can to go to Tools - Page Info, click the Media tab, and find the file with a type of Embed.  You can save it that way.

To watch downloaded flash without a browser go find SAFlashPlayer.exe. It is distributed with FlashMX and belongs to Macromedia. Finding it is your problem. Once you have it, put it somewhere safe. Then double-click the SWF file you got. In the "Open with" dialog browse to SAFlashPlayer.exe and check the "Always use this program..." checkbox.

As for getting the SWF, anything in /flash/ opens is s seperate browser window. You can simply use "Save page as".

And flash embedded into the page can be found by looking for the "<embed" tag and the extension ".swf" in the source. The best thing is to learn some very basic HTML. This method works anywhere without being dependant on browser or 3rd party tools.

there are also extensions for FireFox which let you save-as SWF files like normal images

i can open the files with my Macromedia Flash 8, thats not a problem for me anymore, but i dont think anyone has that program because it costs so much for me to get it, and the problem is when i try to open it inside the browzer it just goes straight back to where would you like to save it...
