If I am correct,I saw on another thread somewhere here someone mentioning the purpose of the chans; something about anonymousinity or something like that.. well I am wondering, are all the boards with chan related? like renchan.org, fchan, not4chan, and another chan that was great when it came to beasts/monsters but nolonger allows Americans due some dumb Americans ruining it for the rest of us, and etc. Just wondering ^_^;; sorry if this ahs been asked before. ((BTW, if there is another Nema here, sorry for using the same name ^_^; tell me and I will choose YaoiOne-TailKitsune.))

"chan" boards started in Japan, where 2 Channel (2ch.net) is an extremely popular discussion board. Its founder has said that it is anonymous so that people can discuss freely and without risk or criticism. 2 Channel has over 500 message boards covering topics ranging from politics to school subjects.

2 Channel is not an image board, the related image board is Futaba Channel (www.2chan.net). Futaba Channel evolved from 2 Channel, but has no official ties to 2 Channel. Futaba Channel has boards covering topics ranging from trains to anime.

American wapanese discovered Futaba Channel, and created their own chan-boards based on the same software. The use of Japanese software, and the obscure age/sage mechanism, is perceived by some to be elite. Unlike the Japanese boards, the American boards are primarily focused anime and hentai, and tend to be used more for mass-downloading of porn than for discussion.

The first notable American "chan" board was 5chan, which is now dead. It was followed by 4chan (4chan.org), which was first announced in SomethingAwful’s forums and is most famous for it’s /b/ board which is host to SomethingAwful-style shenanigans. Other notable boards include idlechan (iinchan.net), koChan (now dead), and in Germany, onechan (onechan.net).

fchan is said to have been created as a replacement for 5chan’s furry board, after 5chan died. The problems of posting copyright works and a DNP list are fairly unique to fchan. 4chan blocks Japanese I.P. addresses and is half way around the world from Japan, so it is very difficult for Japanese artists to do about their art being posted on 4chan. And Futaba Channel in Japan is mostly photographs, screen-grabs from videos, and artists posting for critique, so artists have less to get upset about.

5chan wasn't that popular anyway, though.  When fchan was born, its userbase was probably half 4chan viewers and half 5chan viewers.  Many 4chan viewers visit fchan because some furry porn is actually hot and few active furry-trollers still exist.

Also the shenanigans of SA, 4chan, YTMND and all the other sites on the internet map are highly different.  While your post, >>2, is informative, drop the history propaganda.

Nice spin.  4chan isn't immune to copyright infringement due to blocking japanese IPs, that's a totally unrelated issue relating to bandwidth concerns.  Moot just has this thing called a "spine," you may have heard of it.  Copyright law on images such as those posted on 4chan are such a joke that when some so called artist* decides he wants to be a douche and cry about other people posting what they made publicly available, all you have to do is say "too bad" and nobody can do anything about it.  But who am I to have a difference in opinion on this matter?  This dnp thing sure seems to have won you a lot of respect from the artist* community.  You only seem to have 93% or so saying "fuck you" in return for allowing them some say in what you allow to be posted.  I like those odds!

*The word artist here does not mean the same thing as the artist you may find in dictionaries.  Rather, it means "one who illegally draws (poor) reproductions of trademarked and copyrighted characters then expects others to obey their own copyright claim as if it were the word of god"

and this is why nobody will ever understand what the deal is with furry art* and their artists*.
