... And that goes for ALL furry characters. They're just imaginary. (Sorry pervs, but you have no chance at a date with any of them. it's all but an empty dream)

I find myself agreeing with the CYD article.  You really have to wonder what was going through Max Blackrabbit's head when he created ZZ.  Does this man have any concept of what the pornography industry is about?  The notion that ZZ got into the business to "liberate" herself from an abusive childhood is so twisted, one is hard-pressed to decide how to deconstruct it.

Despite Max's delusions, the porn industry is hardly liberating.  It is exploitive--essentially, no different from prostitution.  Max portrays ZZ as a sort of goofy maiden aunt, rather than someone who uses vulnerable people like so much meat, WHICH SHE DOES, whether she understands it or not.  That he also portrays her as a victim of child sexual abuse just adds to the deliciously sick irony.

What would be the reaction, I wonder, if a character in a ZZ comic were to go up to her and congratulate her for growing up "just like dear old Dad"?

Most furry 'stars' don't have well thought out backgrounds. I'm sure Terrie Smith's Chester isn't any better, but then, I don't think when Max started with Zig, he had anything really planned for her.

Counter this with the Skunkworks girl's background story. It's not art but man is is better writen.

The internet is a tool used by people the world over to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.

Yeah, we're totally off-topic now.  The topic sucked anyway, because it fails to account for the fundamental principle that sluts rule!  And I'm a firm believer in a ruling class.

Wasn't this character created in the early 90s? Porn stars born from abusive childhoods were all the rage with some artists at that time. So it's not surprising to see such a baleful analysis about her that's made way past the 90s by the "new audience" just to say how much she's become outdated. At least that's what i think.

The problem with the character (and I stress CHARACTER) is just in how she's portrayed in relation to her story. It's very poorly written. Making ZZ out to be a fun-loving and happy person doesn't work with her past and what she became. She did the typical human thing of becoming what she hated, someone who uses other people to get what she wants. The only difference between the characters of ZZ and her father is that he used force to get what he wanted, she uses manipulation. At core, it's the same thing.

To make a good story out of something like that, the character needs to be shown in a realistic manner. The truth of the irony needs to be brought out and the character needs to be portrayed in a sympathetic yet tragic manner. The humanity regarding the situation is important to capitalize on and there should be a resolution. The way it was put together is just an example of extremely poor writing.

The character mainly exists for one purpose, which is to just be aesthetically pleasing. In which case, she probably should have stayed that way, without a story that made her out to be even more unrealistic. Outside of furry, no one would ever take her character seriously or think twice about anything featuring her. It's hack job at best.

What, furry has the market cornered on hack jobs and unrealistic characters and stories that become ridiculously popular?  Yeah, right.  Don't watch much TV do you?  Or read comic books?

Precisely.  Hense her popularity.  Sex sells.  The lesson that we should take from Zig Zag is that a fun-loving, over-sexed, drop-dead gorgeous babe mixed with just a teensy bit of furry angst is a winning combination with furverts.  No, you're not going to become deeply immersed in her story; it's not a character-driven human drama.  It's just a little window-dressing.  Honestly, I don't know why some folks get so hung up on something so entirely inconsequential.

>>20  "Note that Holden McNeil never said "bitch about porn"."

After all, what could anyone possibly have to bitch about when they're looking at porn?

Hmm. That is a pretty good article, and it's true that ZigZag has a very flawed backstory with an unrealistic outcome.

But who here would really like a character with a way better backstory if they're only going to paw to her?

As dumb as this topic is I will say one thing.

ZZ is largely and widely known because she was one of the first largely soley open ideas when the fandom started to blossom on the Ieen-Ter-net. Now that so many people have the same idea.. making these stupid ass porn star characters because alot of artist think this is the only way to progress an adult bound character. IMHO its flabbery.

Slutting your own character to get ratings because people are just people demeans yourself and your reputation. "But hey I'm cool with that.. people expect me to draw adult artwork so I will. Even though I try to draw something clean they yell and moan at me." "Wherez the porn yo? I want to see something nasty!"

...Fighting over fiction. What a sad state of mind.

The author could have said 'Zig Zag is a wank character with a poorly conceived backstory,' and leave it at that. Instead, they went on and on for almost four thousand words, as though finer analysis is required, in order to stir up false controversy and hear their own voice.

Old thread bump?

I guess it makes more sense than starting a new thread from scratch and having to go through 1~25 again. :/

Anyhow, I don't really mind ZigZag... I just don'tt think she's THAT great.  I mean, she has character, which is cool I guess... but she doesn't have a character that I find compelling, so I don't really pay attention to that.  In terms of appearence... A zebra striped skunk... not really my thing.

Still, if you like slutty characters, and you like skunks, then I guess you'll like ZigZag.  All a matter of taste.
