Definition of "furry"

I was just thinking, with how elves and animé-style characters--you know, the sort of grey area between "furry" and "not furry", about which furs can never seem to agree--tend to show up, maybe it would be useful if the mods set a definition of "furry" for the sake of this site?

Man, I say that as though something bad will happen if it doesn't happen.  I just think that some confusion might be cleared up.

I know how I personally define "furry", but that's not the point.

We've pretty much said, time and time again, that for it to be allowed on Fchan, it has to either:

1. Be the anthro form of an animal or a cartoon animal of some sort (funny animal)
2. Have the characteristics of an animal
and/or
3. Be quite obviously based off of some type of animal.

That's our definition of furry. It's giving humans the physical characteristics of an animal, whether to a small or large extent. Or visa versa.

Question: How many people would prefer this to be posted somewhere on the front page? Would it actually help get rid of the confusion, in your opinions? Or just be something else for people to ignore and not read?

We're always looking for new ways to help explain things in a way that is understandable to almost everyone, so your input on them is always appreciated.

I really think it would help if it were somewhere on the front page, yes.

So you consider a human with a tail, like Goku from "Dragonball Z", to be furry?  Just for clarification; I'm not trying to start a fight, or anything.

In my opinion, Goku is pushing it. But at the same time, I can see how he might fit.

I'd like to hear everyone elses opinion before I make a call on it.

I think I read somewhere on here at some time that it's furry if it's giving an animal human-like "upgrades" (opposable thumbs, the ablity to stand on two legs, the ability to speak a defined language) but not if it's giving a human a "downgrade" (such as the inability to speak, think, have emotion, etc.) But that's how I think I remember it.

Right.  This is called "zoomorphing", if you're talking about giving a human the qualities of other animals--sticking cat ears and a tail on a human does not make it an anthro cat, in my book, because of this.

Most furry characters I see are zoomophs. They're built like human beings, they live in a society patterned after our own and behave exactly like people do, except they've got animal heads and tails. Sometimes their animal identities are reflected in their personalities.

That the best definition of "furry" for this site?
There too much nitpicking because some people don't like sonic or Gargoyles or something else.

really, if somebody dislikes something, they should ignore it.
It isn't like it pops up about a million times then fucks their computer. If don't like gay porn, then I don't look at it. If I have to scroll past it to get to what I want to see, I don't bitch about it, I am thankful that what I want to see is there.
