Yeah, okay. Whatever. Except you would have to eat the stuff for it to harm you.

Alarmist.

No need to eat it. All you need to do is insert it into any mucous membrane. The chemicals in the PVC are constantly leeching out into whatever they contact: usually the air, which is why you can smell the toys.

Left unused for a couple of weeks, a chemical film forms over the toy. This is why Zeta sends a bottle of baby powder with the toy and tells you to store it in a ziploc baggie with some baby powder. The powder acts as an absorbant, and keeps the toy from getting slimy. This doesn't make it any less dangerous, however, it just makes it less disgusting.

Several of the chemicals used have already been banned for consumer products in the European Union. The United States will probably get around to it eventually, after years of escalating media attention forces the government to respond. I wouldn't wait, though, if I were you. You can school yourself real quick with a simple google search on PVC and cancer, for example.

The whole problem could be averted if Zeta would start using silicone instead of PVC jelly. It's possible that they've invested in a bunch of PVC jelly that they're trying to get rid of. It's also possible that they just don't care about their customers' health.

Again, you would have to ingest copious amounts of it for any real harm to be done. Or in this case, I suppose, you would have to keep it in your vagina for months at a time. I remember the hype over Mountain Dew and yellow 5. Supposedly yellow 5 caused impotence. Turns out you would have to drink a gallon a day of the chemical itself for any harm to occur.

Or maybe I'm just overlooking the nonexistent thousands upon thousands of Zeta users who have tumors and cancer.

The chemicals have not been banned in the European Union. Want to know how I know that? Because PVC is one of the most common materials used for building in the United Kingdom. Try getting your info from non-environmentalist websites.

PVC (Polyvinyl-chloride) is quite safe. It's the additives to the polymer that are hazardous or not. Most plastics aren't much useful as they are, because their chains of hydrocarbons are either too long, too short, not interconnected enough, too interconnected... etc.

Additives, fillers, conditioners, you name it are used to treat the plastic to different properties, like in this case, plastic jelly. The PVC that is used in building houses isn't the same PVC used to make dildoes.

Some types of plastics may contain up to 80% of stuff completely different than the basic polymer it's made out of. Like a contact lens for example. It's plastic with 97% of water added and bound together into a jelly.

why not make a petition or proposal to zeta to change over, if they had enough interest then they actualy might look into changing to it, just means higher prices considering the average silicon that makes good toys is about $100 per gallon and the equipment to make the molds is different then it is for PVC toys. i myself already know that zeta takes care of its customers considering the fact i am allergic to the more harmful PVC toys and cant use any

With the current rate at wich we are advancing with nanotechnology, we will soon have a flood of new 'super' materials, not to mention tons of new things to make better, more realistic toys out of. It might take a while for the trickle down, but look at whats already been accomplished. Now if they just get AI and robotic motor funtions down, then we can start on realistic robots.

Havoc, you are so dense. I never once said that PVC was harmful. It's the phthalates that are used for softening the PVC that are harmful and are banned in the EU. Try actually reading anything, ever. And you're totally making this shit up about "oh you would need to keep it in your vagina for five months." Quit pulling numbers out of your ass. You don't have any clue one way or the other.

Fact is that phthalates are already proven to cause genital abnormalities in baby boys whose mothers were exposed. http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1280383 http://www.ehponline.org/members/2004/6901/6901.pdf

Quit getting your info from industry websites. Try the fucking NIH.

I've already emailed them and they never responded. It appears that they don't actually give a shit. I doubt a petition would make any difference.

I got my stuff from common sense, you're a fear-monger, and yada-yada-yada. There is no way that the chemicals in the PVC could cause harm unless you were subjected to constant use. That's why we can have Sweet and Low in our coffee from time to time. That's why you can drink water, because, oh SHIT, too much of that is harmful!!! Watch the fuck out, Aquafina!

Seriously. Just like smoking a cigar every now and then will not give you cancer, using a PVC dildo every now and then will not be harmful. Defects come from abnormally high exposure.

There are chemicals however that can cause serious damage with very small doses. Different people are more receptive to certain chemicals than others. And as for thinking its safe, we can never realy know. Some of these chemicals will build up in us over years, causing no problems, untill suddenly watch out, you have cancer. We dont realy know what some of these chemicals will do in us a few decades down the road.
My Father has worked in construction for years, and never had a problem around harmful chemicals, but suddenly last year he became allergic to certain chemicals in standard work boots. Now he cant wear the kinds of shoes he has for over 30 years because it will make him sick as hell.
