It was my love of werewolves and in fact I think Werewolves in Suburbia that introduced me to 'the fandom'.

You can like furries and not BE a furry. I know a few people who are like that. So likeing werewolves, or were-anythings for that matter, dosnt nessisarily make you a furry. Now if you want to BE a werewolf, then thats a different story.

You are only a furry if you consider yourself a furry. Labels are something you choose to attach to yourself, if you don't agree with the label then it should be brushed off as ignorance. I like a lot of things within the furry fandom but I like a lot of things in other fandoms too. If I were to label myself according to every interest I have i'd end up being some ridiculous shit like "furry yaoifanboy techfan art connisueur(sp?) music fan, food fan" and so on and so forth. My interests(as in i'm truly interested in learning everything about it) span so widely...i'd never feel right calling myself a furry because it would be like saying one interest is more important than the other. I believe in expanding my mind and learning everything there is to learn so I just wouldn't be comfortable with that. If you like anthromorphic stuff and nothing else...or your main interests focus on anthromorphic things...I guess it's alright to call yourself a furry.

No, it doesn't, the term furry is a new one and furries like to make themselves seem acceptable, were egyptians furries, no, they just had a religion nearly like all others that associated with animal beings, are cat-girls furries only for when furries want 4chantards to accept them. You aren't a furry unless you want to conform to the stereo type, just like you aren't a goth/emokid/popiconlover unless you conform. Don't limit your horizons and label yourself or let anyone else label you. That is all.

>>32 I don't think I fit any "furry stereotypes" except the very general ones that apply to anyone who spends too much time on the internet. That said, I find the term useful. It's a lot easier to say than "i find anthropomorphized depictions of animals intriguing and often erotic." So I've no problem applying this "label" of furry to myself. I don't believe that "limits my horizons" in any way. And I find your comment strange and confusing. What's wrong with the word? You sound like a bad motivational speaker.

>>34 In addition to species, I also happen to have an economic class, a sex, a gender, an orientation, a primary language, a familiarity with US culture, a skin color, an educational background, a lot of internalized propaganda, a bit of internalized oppression, a few groups of friends, some former romantic relationships, and some opinions about the origins and future of replicating organisms, which necessarily shape my outlook. It would be pretty stupid of me to pretend I don't have these things, or that I can simply ignore them or wish them away. Deny it if you must, but you two come with baggage. You can admit it, learn about it, try to understand yourself better, and try to understand how it is you found yourself here (biologically and socioeconomically). Perhaps you already do and we're talking at cross purposes. If you meant "liking wearwolves doesn't mean you need to say 'yiff' or wear a fursuit," then I agree. I just don't find a self-descriptive word inherently limiting, is all.
