What would you do if you were a mod?

So after the recent trolling attempt and a little money made on eBay, I figured I'd pose this question to the fchan community: If you were a mod (or admin) of fchan, what would you do?

No trolling, please, and this certainly isn't a recruitment thread. I'm just curious. ;)

Well, I doubt I could do the job better... but I could just try to keep the tradition of being respectful to everyone.

If I were a mod on fchan, I'd probably... I dunno. In all honestly, I think I'd probably just try to expand fchan's discussion boards a bit. =)

The moddin' has been pretty level!

YES. I'm really getting sick of those (he even makes them in female-focused threads).

If I were a mod, I'd chop the DNP in half/three-quarters because I don't think many of those artists care anymore, especially when they're reposted everywhere else with no retaliation.

I would let people actually discuss in imagethreads, so long as there are a few pics being posted and things aren't getting TOO stupid. Let's face it, when people are screamed at, "take it to /dis/", they never do; and when they actually do, either nobody posts or it gets deleted. Rather pointless.

I'd allow you to criticize, as long as it doesn't turn into a 100-post gangbang. :P

Can't think of anything else.

I dunno what exactly I'd do as a mod...I guess I'd just...moderate!

I mean, there's nothing that really needs that much improvement around here, save a few people's attitudes at times. :P

I'd get rid of the DNP lists people who are not even out there anymore like ferris and thats about it.

I suppose you have been doing a good job but you people scare me and I don;'t like you. I could be banned at any minute for no good reason and ist upsetting me

No, seriously. We don't ban indiscriminately, and most bans are only temporary. Worry less, we're your friends. Mostly. ;)

1. Become a mod on Fchan
2. ???
3. Profit!

Foolproof!

I agree with some of the points about the DNP list.  It seems to cause more problems than it solves I think.  Not posting commercially available stuff makes sense, lots of places do that.

Other than DNP, I think Fchan is actually run pretty well. Dealing with trolls and furry drama alone is a pretty big effort, and I'd say you guys have done alright.

I WOULD however dump your current advertiser.  I know this has been rehashed a dozen times, but ANY advertiser that tries to get me to install ActiveX controls needs to be shot in the fucking face.  No joke.

I'd prefer forcing them to watch Britney Spears' singing videos over and over again. Much more fun that way.

The donations have been going fairly well, so we are going to talk to the host about removing the advertisements. However, if he does so and the donations stop, then he will probably be forced to put them up again.

This place is pretty nifty. I don't think that I'd change much; maybe just put some sort of limit for no-content-bumping. It's  tiresome to see the same threads on the first page every time I visit, especially when there's nothing new to them. ...just bump, bump, bump; have to check the third page or so to actually find any threads that haven't been there for two months or so. -_-;

I would probably ban Raven. Then I would feel bad a couple of days later and lift the ban. Lather, rinse, repeat.

At least once I would lock all of /dis/ and close every single thread. This place is a dump. I shouldn't even be here. What the hell is wrong with me?

Also I would silently remove certain names from the DNP and add others who have never requested to be on it. Endless laughs!

If possible I would redirect all the images in every thread so that the thumbnails were normal but they redirect to scat pics when you click on them.

A randomized DNP list that shows different entries for different people (maybe as an April fools joke) could provide some good laughs. Another good AF joke would be to add every single artist that you can find to the DNP list.

There's not too much i'd do, but i'd likely mod as a odd, scary sort of Nadia/Raven hybrid, ban that /anon tool who has to comment on how what characters should be doing what in that fashion in every single thread in /toon/ and /m/. I'd also mod any thread that has a 2 to 1 ratio of mindless chatter to pictures and earn the ire of a few chatty folks who i'd cheerfully ban after they started crying. Raven is a great mod, bit I always liked Nadia's stance, she treated you like a adult till you proved you weren't and then scorn and banhammers were applied. Great stuff, more of it in the fandom plz.

1: Simplify the posting interface.  It's too confusing for new people, the buttons are every which way, and directions are spewed everywhere.  Need something more streamlined in my opinion.

2: Make my job a little easier by doing two things:

A: Making the server detect and auto block certain hashes or CRC32's of often posted DNP works.  I know this could be easily sidestepped by image resizing or modifying one pixel but it would autodiscipline the noobs.  A hash-making tool can be created and artists wishing to be on the DNP can submit a list of hashes that represent works they don't want to be posted.
B: Upon a post, search the posting file name for matches against DNP names and warn poster on a match.

3: I realize a /b/ style board would not work here but what's wrong with a little word-filter fun now and then?

4: Add a move-thread function.

5: Require that banned people fufill a certain number of requests in /req before being allowed back on.

I really like the way fchan is run though and the culture of artist respect you guys are trying to uphold.  I don't think much has to change.  Thank you guys for all your hard work and a great site.
