What's so bad about necroposting?

Reviving a topic that has languished for some weeks or months is such an undesirable act, as opposed to creating a new and redundant thread about the exact same topic? Where's the offense in it?

There's nothing wrong with necroing one or two threads. When you necro 5 or more, things get a bit silly. Use your best judgement.

first of all, the posts you bumped where from 2005/2006 not "a few months" second of all, you went out of your way to bump like 4 of them all at once.

there is no need to revive threads from a year ago.

If threads are down the list there's a good reason why(everyone lost interest). You shouldn't be thinking about your own but rather the public good and let the thread die. If you have pics to post, post them WITHOUT bumping, that's what the buttons there for.

OP here, and I haven't yet done any so-called necroposting; I'm just asking why people find it so objectionable. "Public good"?  Where's the public harm? I see it happen and it doesn't bother me in the least that someone takes an interest in and revives a dormant topic. So what? I'm not talking about image board threads which disappear eventually (many tend to get restarted with the exact same subject anyway and no one complains about that.) There's a "list all threads" link here that makes it possible to access dormant discussion topics. Some people read old threads, have something more to add or ask and add a reply to them.
People here are reacting to the act like they've opened up a container of old sour milk and are stinking up the place.

It's kinda like bringing up a conversation that happened hours, days, maybe weeks ago with another person.

It's awkward and at that point, it's been dropped, when all of a sudden you go "hey I have something to say about that!"

When...honestly everyone isn't even thinking about it anymore.

I don't mind if people revive a 6 month old thread... But I DO mind it when people revive a 6 month old thread and simply posting  "MOAR!!!! O_O" and not contributing to the thread with a related picture >/.

I think the majority of the necroposting that's being referred to is primarily in /dis/, since almost every topic sticks around.

But I do agree, nonetheless.
