As Yoshi sends Mario hurdling into the screen, you remember that this is the game you've been playing since 1999, back when Pluto was still a planet, and Michael Jackson was only partially white: Super Smash Brothers. It's been played on Nintendo Consoles throughout the world since it's debut in 1999, being an all time favorite for many-a-gamer. Three years later, with the release of the Gamecube's Super Smash Brothers Melee, more characters were added, and over a five year span, countless tournaments have been held. Techniques such as wave-dashing and L-cancelling became popular, and gamers began to develop blisters from the frantic button-smashing. And now, after Nine years of smash-attacks, fan-throwing, and dodge-rolls, the face of Smash Brothers is once again readying itself for change with the upcoming release of Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Characters from Non-nintendo Series have begun to appear with the likes of Konami's Solid sname and Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog now able to battle alongside the smash-series-vets. Some players have been rumored to be removed from the roster, while others appear to have changed dramatically. Everyone is anxious to see if the copy-cat characters of days long past such as Falco and Pichu are once again taking up arms, or, if the rumors are true and that such characters have retired from the frenzy. As the release of Brawl draws nearer, fans of the past iterations of this series are biting their nails, desperately waiting for any information they can get about their beloved game.
So, in honor of the Smash Brothers Legacy, I'd like to establish this thread, something we can dedicate to the discussion of such a quality series.
I'll bring first to the table the well-used questions of "What characters are you hoping make it into the Brawl Roster," "Who is your favorite character to use in the original and Melee," and "What newly announced characters are you looking forward to using?"
In terms of characters I'm hoping will be added, I hope for Klonoa, and would settle for Marina Lightyear (Mischeif Makers, Treasure/Enix 64 game) as an almost entirely grapple/throw based character. Currently, I've been playing a significant amount of SSBM, attempting to squeeze it in between all other things... and I've come to really adore using Yoshi. Personally, I'm desperately looking forward to using King Dedede. He's always been a favorite character of mine, and fanboyism always adds extra enjoyment to a game.
