Depends.  I produce significant (as in easily noticeable, dripping) precum after about maybe 10 minutes of arousal, and things can get really, really sticky long before I ever reach orgasm (which in some cases is less fun than it may sound like).

Pre-cum is generated by the male body to reduce the amount of acid in the plumbing.  Urine contains a lot of acid.  A way of ensuring that the semen gets through untainted.  How much each body produces will vary, from very noticeable to barely noticeable.

Tasting your own?  Hmmm...  In my opinion, it is a bit unusual, but its not weird or an indication of homosexuality.  I don't see why not.  Guys want or expect their women to swallow.  If you want her to, it makes some sense to be willing to yourself.
