As per the thread in /faq/: http://fchan.me/read.php/faq/1163274544 it clearly states that fan characters drawn in a realistic style may be posted to the regular boards OR /toon/.
Yet in /m/ all the images of a Red13 thread were removed with a mod post telling us the thread belongs in /toon/, even though most of the images posted were of realistic, morphic rendition of the fan character, and realistic/morphic depictions of the character is what was desired.
So are we making /toon/ the /fan/ board now? If every thread that is intended for realistic depictions of fan based characters is going to be declared /toon/ content anyway, then that might as well be the case.
But it's not like /toon/ needs more traffic, and I'd really like to know the actual rules so I could follow them and report images/threads that don't (instead of somehow being wrong when I follow the current rules, and told another user that the thread was fine for /m/ when apparently it's magically not anymore.)
And unfortunately "Whatever the mods say at the moment" is a shitty rule to try to follow ahead of time. :P
So which is it? Is /toon/ for toons or is /toon/ for fan characters now, with the other boardfs being only for 'original' (haha!) furry content?

I'm not sure I understand the question. RedXIII is a non-morph, meaning he's not bipedal. Therefore, he isn't allowed in /m, but he is allowed in /toon.
I saw the thread, and cannot recall a single image of a "furry" version of RedXIII; most of it was his normal four-legged self. Even if there were a couple, the thread was predominantly 'animal' RedXIII, and safely belonged in /toon. I don't think "realism" had as much to do with it as did "quadrapedalism".
For clarity:
Content which may ONLY be posted in /toon:
2. Non-morphic cartoon animals like Balto, Spirit, and those similar who are depicted by themselves, with other non-morphs, anthros, or humans.
