It explains everything.

That guy made a mod for a game by himself, using his own ability and time.

And you're making a petition to request he do it again? Instead of maybe letting him do whatever he wants to do? God this seems so arrogant.

That is one possible interpretation. Where I in his shoes, the inference I would draw from a petition, due in no small part to the fact that I'm an attention whore, would be incontrovertible proof that people love the mod and love the work.

I'm certain there are many, many artists from all who grow annoyed from fan mail along the lines of "Write more! Draw more! Sing more!" But I'm certain there are just as many who would be flattered to have so many fans.

With luck, he's the blushing kind. ;)

Oh, I agree, it could be seen as praise. My problem is that this is a petition. A petition seems to be a little bit more imposing, more like a group of people coming together to make a demand, rather than making a request on, say, message boards and other venues.

And even then, aren't petitions usually used on organizations or groups? Such as TV studios when something gets canceled, or a petition to the local government to try to accomplish something? It's one guy, it seems a little silly to use a petition, of all things.

But eh. I'm rambling and probably grouchy. Who knows?

I kind of have to agree. While he might take the petition as praise, probably a campaign of writing fan letters and offering donations would be even more effective. Nothing expresses gratitude like a little hard cash.

OP here.

I'm not against making donations for this.  But, organizing a petition is a hell of a lot easier than organizing a mailing campaign.

Really?

With the petition you had to go to a site, sign up, and create/write the petition. You then had to advertise the petition around the net, including here.

Instead, you could've just written a post encouraging others to write to Ian themselves. You would've actually saved yourself a step, and thus, made it easier.

*shrug* But it's really semantics at this point.

>>7 getting people to post their name on a website is not at all easier than getting them to print, type, or write out a letter of their own, signing it, finding an envolope, finding a stamp, and traveling to their local post office to mail it.

One person puts in more effort, or ALL of them put in more effort..

But hey, that's just semantics.

...

Do they have to mail a physical letter?

Good lord, emails are so much easier. Catch up with the times, man!

Even so, each still must write that email.  Perhaps it's just me, but I tend to pay less attention to form-mail.

The point remains.

to sign the petition, you have to write your name and email address anyway. There's still writing involved for the individual, even though it isn't very much.

And I'm sorry, if a person isn't willing to write a couple of sentences in an email, they probably don't care that much.

Put yourself in the guy's shoes. What would be more powerful of a motivating factor? A petition that, in this day and age, is odd to do for something like this?

Or getting a boatload of emails about the subject? Honestly, if I was inundated with hundreds of emails, I'd be more willing to take notice.

Mog Mod was for Morrowind, not Oblivion; Fallout 3 uses the Oblivon engine not Morrowind.

Someone tried to convert the Morrowind models to Oblivion but the results were horrid, converting the converted models to Fallout 3 will look attrocious; so mogmod for Fallout 3 would have to be made from scratch.

And remind me exactly why he owes anyone any such extreme favours?

>>11 That was my point, although I was going somewhere with the form mail bit and dropped the ball .. was trying to say that people simply should not copy/paste the same thing, as that would make it no different from a petition.

They...don't have to copy/paste anything if they have nothing to copy in the first place.

Just write a forum post and say "we should email Ian and ask him to work on a mog mod for Fallout 3," give out the email address, and you're done. There's no form-mail involved; the emails will be different from person to person. Simple, and probably more effective than a petition.

That would be a bit hard considering Fallout 3 doesn't have any modding tools yet...

what about "Call of duty 4", that would be interesting.

And it won't have any modding tools, enjoy your console port.

Just like Left 4 Dead is a console port with it's matchmaking system.
