IS there anyway to search through the images??

Like viewing all of the images posted on fchan in a well organized, not too overwhelming fashion? (the reason why i like fchan from the other boards)

Thats a good idea, but i don't think the mods and the admin are going to change anything any time soon.

Other than that i don't know what you mean?

as in, all the images at the same time.

I mean as in, I want to see a certain animal, can i type in in somewhere and have only that come up. Or if i want to see shrinking, or to see older images.

>>1 No.  Unless you count http://www.google.com/search?q=site:fchan.me+shrinking (to use an example from >>4) or using ctrl+f.

>>2 Correct.  Unless, of course, you want to implement a search feature for the image boards, as none of us have had anywhere near the time required to do such a thing.

What if you where to make fchan opensource?

That is give the public the freedom to alter it and make an already well presented chan better. Or at least release the source code of fchan as a template to make other image boards?

With mod consent and supervision of course?

I already know the answer ia a big fat NO but Im just brainstorming

>>6 The software that is used on fchan is already "open source":

Wakaba provides the image boards: http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/web/wakaba_kareha.html
Shiichan provides the message boards: http://shii.org/shiichan

Granted, our copies have been extensively modified and a source release would involve quite a bit of work that I doubt Xeno would be willing to do.  However, given the above sources, if you were to implement a new feature (such as search) it would most likely be fairly trivial (and far less effort on our single developer) to make compatible with our own copy.

Also, keep in mind that for any such addition to be added it would have to meet our standards, which are fairly high.  With that warning, if anyone is still interested in adding features, feel free to come on IRC and talk with myself or Xenofur.

>>7 Considering Xeno is a programmer and web-developer by trade, the "knowledge" is hardly the problem, it is the time required and percieved benifit, which so far in this case have seen to be (respectively): quite a bit, and very little.
