If we pay for a subscription or membership or something, can we get these ads for firefox/opera/etc. taken out?

fchan does not do subscriptions, or memberships. It would push us over the legal line.

Be civil. As long as Fchan's ads aren't the in-your-face, malware-serving, page-hijacking crapads that seem to be all over nowadays, why block them? Assuming they make money on an impression basis, by blocking the ads you're hurting Fchan's chances of being here next year.

Remember, the web as we know it was built on advertising. If AdBlock had been around in 1994 things might be very different now.

Those aren't ads, that's a public service annoncement to make my own life easier. If you like knowing that you're contributing to making my life harder, go on using IE. :)

My only issue that I have with the "public service announcement" is that it's still worded offensively.

Then again, I'd just forget about it if people never brought it up.

Only the IE6 one is worded a bit strongly and mirrors exactly my exasperation at any person who'd willingly still use that not only because of the browser, but also because they've shut off Windows Updates which would've replaced it with IE7 a while ago already.

Oh yeah?  I guess I didn't realize that.  I never bothered to update IE to 7 because I don't use it except for Yahoo games which requires me to.

I should probably update the stuff anyway.

Not trolling here, or anything; and I'm not an IE6 user, but that does seem to be abuse of power.

Welcome to fchan.

I was not aware it was so harsh.

I have edited it to make it a little more simple on the fragile.

>>13 Not really. The individual who posted that was also trolling numerous boards. Trolling boards plus insulting Xeno is not something I feel needs to be tolerated. I did not feel a need at the time to explain the situation to any of our userbase.

>>14 It is only considered abuse of power by those who either do not have what is perceived as power, those who are forced by the use of power to behave instead of doing what they want with no consequences, or by those who are not fully aware of the complete situation.

I find it funnier that it says to switch to Apple Safari.  It's not really offensive, just intrusive.  I use Firefox anyways.

Sorry, I had no background knowledge... but still, admins shouldn't get elevated protection from verbal abuse in comparison to normal users. Just a suggestion.

Rules
0. Behave politely and civil.
On Fchan civil and polite behaviour is required and will be enforced. http://fchan.me/read.php/faq/1146224315/1-40

You have a complaint regarding Safari?

The actual rule we work under here where exceptions are concerned is, only I am exempt from the rules. In order to be the final arbiter of rules, I must be able to act outside of them.
Xeno is given a great latitude when working with this system. I may not always approve of what he says and does, but I will support him.
I have corrected the oversight and see no need to explore it further.

>>18
It should be noted that since Xeno wrote that, not I, I can override it in circumstances I may decide warrant.

"Still running IE6? For you own sake, please upgrade to IE7. Or better, go improve your experience by switching to Opera or Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome or Apple Safari right now."    is what the message says. I suggest this too, but it could be worded nicely for the weak-hearted.

Yes, they could. However, everyone should know, I do not use tripcodes, and any announcement of such magnatude would require my CapCode Nadia# Etoile.

It is worded nicely.
It previously said something along the lines of, "Jesus! you're still running IE6?!" and then continued to yell in your general direction.

Which was my complaint.
Now it's all... yay, "here's a suggestion for you!"

Ah, I see. Do capcodes work in the same way as tripcodes?

24Report(capped) (sage)

Capcodes are a completely different animal. They require having an account which only I or Xeno can give. Which means, logging in. And, your login may or may not be the same as is displayed.
It also shows the word (capped) under the report tick but above the word (sage) if it is so ticked.
Everything you do, while logged in, is logged. Something Raven had insisted on and I never bothered to undo.

In contrast a tripcode is a mathematical logarithm. In some cases a tripcode may show an artist tag, a simple subroutine. A small number of non artists have special tags also, but that is based entirely on tripcodes.

I wanna see the it be all passive agressive and pitying. "Oh god, you're running IE6? You poor thing! Here, let me get you an upgrade and a warm milk..."

Something like that would've been fitting two years ago, but nowadays with Windows Update spreading IE7 the only reason to still run IE6 is to either have disabled that (i.e. being an idiot) or using work computers.

>>26
She doesn't use the pass all the time for posting here, but all admin functions still require login and you can be sure she'll know about me being unhappy if i disagree with her decisions. I've never held back to her when it comes to that.

And, she does value opinions from >>28.

As you know, I do not use IE except to test compatibility. I prefer Lolifox, which has not been updated in a while. I use FireFox, Flock, Safari, Lynx, Konqueror, and Mosaic. Sometimes I still work with Netscape 6.x, or even 4.x, but only if I must as that machine is ancient.

I ナディア, being of sound mind and body, leave Opera to Xeno.
