500 internal server error?

Pages:1

Ok sooo
I go to the main page, right? And I get a "500 internal server error" in the main panel, and on the side panel it says "host not allowed to access this MySQL server"

So then I cleared my cookies.
I can navigate to the boards by typing .../m/ or .../s/, but the side panel won't show up. Help, guise?

I can navigate to the boards, but get a 500 error when trying to load a thread in reply mode.  A server error isn't something the end-user can really do anything about.

Same here. I can access the boards just fine but I can't get to the home page.

The database server died, taking the disks and backups with it, as such the boards are nuked now. Everything should be working again though. Poke me if it ain't. Preferrably on IRC.

Meh, this is good, in a way. A lot of the boards (Especially /h/) had a lot of useless clutter. Now /h/ will be shown as the truly desolate board it is.

I tried loading the first page of each section and it seems to be working fine now.

Funny thing is, now people will desperately try to restart "their" threads, we already have two or three sonic dedicated threads in toon, I guess restarting the whole thing doesn't prevent people from bombarding it with lots of unnessesary threads ;)

Yeah, it's going to get bad- instead of 2 threads for Sonic (one for /ah/ material), there'll be another thread for every character in the franchise, plus one for different gender matchups.

And the threads that actually matter will fade... <:(

a rude question: how did the server dying manage to take the *backups* with it?

12Report
eddyH at 13 Sep 2009: 09:21

(OTOH anyone got a crash course in directory dumping i can take to maybe kickstart some things if i get bored?)

13Report
at 13 Sep 2009: 10:54

Yes what about the backups, weren't they stored on an local disk? That wasn't involved in the crash? If not, what's the point in backuping at all then...

There's a way to get your SQL files back, but i don't know if you did format your drive or your hard drive took a dump.  Cuz if it took a dump you're screwed.  If it just crashed, there's a way around it.

Watching this reform out of nowhere is going to be terribly interesting.

i was wondering what was going on... hey, at least it got rid of all the clutter.

Temporary solution that, due to lack of time, became long-term.

>>14
The server tech even tried replacing the actual read head assembly to no avail. Fchan's db was only one of many on there.

On the subject of all the Sonic threads in toon, I do agree, it's overdone.  I also remember when Yerf was S.C.F.A., Sonic related art got banned because it was so overdone that the archive was getting called "the sonic archive"  It's a wonder why people aren't referring to /toon as /sonic

IN other words, the hard drive readers finally got cooked of data transfer constant requests of what ever section.  I wonder what the brand name was on the hard drive and the manufacturing date.

Well talking about it won't help and besides, since the threads died and were created almost every minute it hardly matters anyway. So don't be sad that the server got nuked and keep posting.

The database server only gets hit when posts are made. All other constant is cached statically on the web server itself, which is perfectly healthy. :)

to bad it broke down

23Report
.::Nucca The Warrior::. at 15 Sep 2009: 01:43

Or the Platters inside the hard drive got warped from excessive heat.  That happens sometimes if there is no fan to keep the hard drive cool.

Tip:  If you have a fan in front or what ever near or close to the hard drive, it will last longer if its cooled constantly.

I agree that Sonic drek's overdone.  I don't even look at Sonic threads, especially given how much of an embarrassment Sonic is as of late.
