1. Look at the image closely to see if the artist's name is included.

2. Look in the file name. If it contains the artist's name go to:
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/(name goes here)
http://us.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/(name goes here)
http://(name goes here).sofurry.com/
http://(name goes here).deviantart.com/
http://(name goes here).sheezyart.com/
Else enter the name into a search engine.

3. Upload it onto www.e621.net. If it has already been uploaded there in the past, it'll tell you and take you to the image's page. Check the Tags, Statistics, and Comments for artist name and links.
• If the image hasn't been uploaded there before, add an 'unknown_artist' tag to the image and check back from time to time to see if anyone has identified the artist.

4. Go to www.tineye.com and upload the image. If the image appears anywhere else on the internet (within TinEYE's website database) it'll give you links. Check these links for artist info.

5. Search for it using suitable search terms on
• FurAffinity Search (If it's mature, make sure you're logged-in and have View Mature Artwork enabled in Control Panel→Account Settings)
• VCLart
• SoFurry (If it's mature, make sure you're logged-in and have Content Filter set to Show ADULT and EXTREME content in Settings).

6. Go to http://images.google.ca/advanced_image_search
• Set SafeSearch to "No filtering"
• Set Exact size to the same dimensions as your image. (Hovering your cursor over the image will tell you, or Right Click→Properties→Details)
• Set Filetypes to whichever kind of image file it is (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP).
• For the Search term, use a generic word such as 'furry' or 'yiff' or 'fox' etc.

7. Copy the image's filename and search it in Google. If nothing comes up, make sure that SafeSearch is turned off (upper right-hand corner: Search settings→SafeSearch→Filtering→Do not filter my search results→Save Preferences). If still nothing comes up, delete the junk characters that some imageboards/websites add to the filename (3e728F837A7028D0_foxesyiff.png → foxesyiff.png).

8. Upload it onto a furry imageboard into a suitable topic (or create a new topic that fits the image) and ask nicely in the comment field for source:
• fchan
• ychan
• paws
• lulz.net/furi/
• boards.4chan.org/b/

9. Request source on:
• fchan.me/req/
• ychan.ca/r
• boards.4chan.org/r/

WOW! This is something fchan really needed. Thank you, this will save a lot of time for a lot of people, and likely cut back on a lot of those "source needed" threads. Can we get the mods to save this somewhere noticeable on the site? Thanks again stranger.
