A question about being furry....

Is being sexually attracted to furries a completely general fetish?
I know it sounds odd, but I really want to know. For me, I'm attracted to male furries, but I'm homosexual towards humans too. I just want to know if there are furries out there that have NO attraction to humans at all, or if that's actually common.

And also, do furries necessarily have to fursuit? What quality necessarily makes you a furry? I can only relate to having an attraction towards furries honestly, I wouldn't enjoy fursuiting, or even having a "fursona."

There are a few idiots out there who will claim this, but I suspect it's just because they've been fapping to furry porn for too long and are made anxious by social situations in which they can see other peoples' faces.

I am in the same boat. Your question depends on definitions. If a furry is a person who wears those ridiculous costumes or roleplays a character, then no. If a furry is a person who likes stories/art/porn involving furries even if they don't like the behavior of the rest of the community, then yes.

Generally a "furry" is just anyone who self-identifies as a furry. (you now know why this community is plagued with bestialists and pedophiles)

I don't really know how general it is.  I'd consider it more specific than some.   I'm pretty much gay and am primarily sexually attracted to males but sometimes go for females (both in furry porn and IRL).  I'm kinda in the same boat as the second reply here, I'm just not into fursuiting, cons, RP, meetups or whatever.  I am not sure I could actually get into doing it with a person wearing a fursuit either; idk, never tried it.  If anthros actually existed then fuck yeah, I'd be interested and would probably prefer them to non-fuzzy mammals. The handful of furries whom I know IRL keep trying to encourage me to "come out" as a furry and I seriously have no desire to given that I live in a ruralish, rednecky area, as well as how the fetish is generally considered way out there by society and most of the people I know around here who identify as 'furry' are poorly-socialized freak-jobs who have issues distinguishing fantasy from reality, most of them have no life and no sense of purpose beyond cultivating their fetishes.  I'm not saying this stuff to troll or anything, that's just how it is here.  *sigh*

Good on you. Keep it up, your future self will thank you one day.

I hear you. I wish furry was more about internal transformation of its members into scruffier healthier men who are serious about independence and self-sufficiency utilizing an anthropomorphic aesthetic and respectable fraternity, rather than sanctioning the twisted lifestyles of the scrawny or downright obese 20 and 30 something delusional sad sacks of full-of-shit pagan trans-gendered effeminate unicorns they think they are now.

it took me four years of hard schooling to answer that question. if you want to make love with something not exactly human or as something not exactly human you are a furry. it is a fetish, but that is only because this was somehow formed by the changing notions of the artists who draw porn and too many re-runs of lion-king. you have to admit that while disney is considered strange their consistent use of talking-animal characters and romance really birthed this thing. there are people with all sorts of reasons and other preferences which make this just another of those red pill-blue pill choices we all make.
i personally take on a transient approach, if you could live life in a more beautiful way, why not pretend and fondle and pine for it? and really, why not at all just live that way?

What you ask is far too complex to give a satisfying answer to on this heavily-moderated forum. I would get too far into details and then be intentionally misinterpreted by the passive-aggressive: the lonely and the backbiting -- it's not just what one says, but where one starts.

I'll just say that nothing but poison and infertility grows in a concrete jungle. The gamer culture, anime culture, *chan culture, and furry culture, represent the hive-mind of that concrete jungle where the children of the dominated are told they can "win" at life by "pwning" all the pretend stuff.

Some thoughtful person typed out in a new thread suggesting that the fandom head in new different directions for the sake of completeness, citing the fandom's origins in sci-fi and Disney. Unfortunately, his thread disappeared before I finished typing my response, which I don't understand because his post wasn't trolling and had infinite more depth to it that the "What do you use for lube?", thread. That's okay, my response to him fits well in this thread instead.

-----------------------------
Nice thoughts. Again, where one starts, in this case, matters more that what one says.

While anthropomorphism is a quaint method to explore human personality traits, it is limited by the types of stereotypes we human beings assign to animals, and is subject to cohabitation by the sycophantic types of personalities who are comforted with a simplified existence of neat categorical stereotypes. "Furry fandom" doesn't need a new direction or even stratification within its ranks. Furry fandom doesn't even need to be destroyed: it serves as just another nice isolated nesting area and dumping ground for society's broken rejects. Furry fandom (like anime, gamers, and *chans) is a trap-prison appendix for society's losers.

Taking into account this generation's deficit of unmet human needs, if one wants to create a subculture that meets the human needs of its members, thoughts toward such realization must have firm grounding in reality. If you want to start something different and new from what furry fandom (doesn't) offer, then start something different and new. Don't call it furry. Don't base it on furry. Avoid anthropomorphism. Avoid the subhuman. Aim instead for the superhuman. The signifier of furry fandom (what this fandom means, externally) is beyond repair. The next generation associates anthropomorphism with WEAKNESS, not strength, thanks in large part to this fandom's BS.

It's extremely sad that themes of anthropomorphism were gleefully and sadomasochistically associated with the subhuman rather than the human, or even the superhuman, but the connection is now culturally well-established. Move on.

Proof: There's a rated PG-13 image of two rubber fetish fursuits walking down a public hotel hallway at a furry convention with Minnie Mouse and highlights the juxtaposition of childhood imagery with sexual fetishism within the furry fandom. Sorry, no direct links, you'll have to search "@keywords juxtaposition" in Furaffinity's search engine (should be the first search result). The mods here have a tendency to gleefully delete posts with direct links on them portraying the unsavory (truthful) side of the fandom as "spam".

Oops! Poor word choice! Where I said:

if one wants to create a subculture

I meant club/fraternity/cabal/etc..  the word "subculture" carries with it a connotation of inclusiveness that, in an era of disposable identities, you want to avoid at all costs.

No, it was astoundingly well-written. The author wrote with statements, not queries or judgement. Just because several topics are touched upon in a single paragraph doesn't mean anything else than a mind for keeping the communication simple and concise.

You are what you feel you are, there is no rigor for defining yourself, and letting anyone else tell you what you are is foolish. We can merely offer up what we define as a furry, but it's your place to make the choice in the end.
