well different artists have different styles, so it can be easy to tell most pics from others, but if you don't know you can either look for their signature or label; or just show someone the pic and ask who it's by. Really though it isn't an extremely serious problem to have something moderated.

Best way to tell is simply to make an effort. The worst way is posting an image saying, 'Sorry if this is DNP.'
Nobody is expected to recognize the work of every DNP artist, but we do ask that the list is referenced before posting against images (especially those signed or with the artist name in the filename/ are labeled Do Not Distribute, or belonging to a commercial site unless specifically labelled for free distribution)
DNP compliance shouldn't take too much on a user's end. When an unsigned image is DNP, usually it will be reported. It's then up to the mods to cross-reference the image against the purported artist.
