For the same reason why people go to art galleries to look at paintings, for æsthetical appreciation. As far as I see sexual furry art serves mostly the purpose of being a masturbatory aid; not everyone masturbates as often as you might, you know.

Not trying to sound like an asshole, but if furries are going to create characters and then draw them with clothes on, then said characters should be a part of a (non-porn) story of some form. I don't know about other folks, but I can find aesthetic meaning in a drawing of Krystal with clothes on, as she exists as part of something that has a purpose beyond porn, as part of Star Fox. However, a picture of, for example, Adam Wan's Kineta with clothes on is simply a picture of what is otherwise a porn star with clothes on, and I struggle to find aesthetic meaning in such a thing, because Kineta and 99.9% of furry characters created by self-proclaimed furries do not serve a purpose beyond porn, as they have no story connecting them to anything non-sexual.

Saying 99.9% of furry characters is ridiculous.

It's annoying when people pull percentages out of their ass... Anyway.

Myself, personally, I like non-sexual stuff, for various reasons. And I do, yes, also have a non-pornographic background to some of my own characters. Do I show them? No. They interest my friends and I only, that's it, I have no desire to show the stories off personally.

But lumping everyone into the same category of "IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PORN THAT'S ALL ANYONE CARES ABOUT" is rather foolish and naive in my opinion.

I realize I left some words out in that first sentence. It should be

Saying 99.9% of furry characters were created for nothing but porn is ridiculous.

This.

This would be saying that all anime is porn, but non-furries seem to believe that furry=porn for some reason. Anime has porn like Hentai and Yaoi, but no one is pointing a finger and saying that all anime is porn.

It's because anime ---> cartoons and hentai ---> porn cartoons. In the States, it's cartoons ---> cartoons and furry ---> porn cartoons. That's just the way it is.

I think that most non-furries would consider furries to be characters associated with porn because where anime has footholds--solid footholds--in mainstream, the "fandom" rather has to rely on cartoons with obscure characters to support the legitimacy of their art, because once you start to search through the sites most of what you'll see is pornography. Perhaps the intent of the character was far more than what was depicted, but the fact remains that once you start to make the most artistic works become tied in with the characters in sexual situations, then it becomes that much harder to take it seriously.
