My (admittedly uneducated) guess? They will very much regret it. This is a fetish, so it is sexual in nature. And one of the effects of castration is a change of the hormonal levels, namely a drop in testosterone, which in turn brings with it a drop in libido. So actually carrying out this fetish would also always mean being into it less. It's rather self-defeating.

I have a friend who underwent transition, so you can be sure that I'm not against that at all. The difference would be that in one case, it's a change that is based on having a person fit into this world better, getting things more in line with who they actually are, while the other is based on a fetish, and nothing more. (which, again, doesn't even work well, since the execution of the fetish itself makes the fetish less appealing due to a loss in libido)

Another reason? Gender dysphoria is permanent. Fetishes aren't. People have gained and lost fetishes. Fetishes tend to be based on a person lacking something in their life, or having some sort of trauma that they deal with through the fetish. Fetishes come and go. Some may stick around, maybe even for a long, long time. But there are ways to deal with those. Gender dysphoria is permanent no matter what happens, and so needs to be dealt with.

To be clear, the surgical treatment of Gender Dysphoria is partially a protection in place to ensure that if someone requires this type of surgery for mental well-being (as determined by trained professionals) that they not endanger themselves by taking matters into their own hands. There are people who have survived self-surgery and will often say, "I am happy now, but this was dangerous and I almost died," and there are plenty of people who actually have died in self-surgery attempts or get 'underground' surgeries from cutters.

For many people it's a fetish or a fantasy for others it's Gender Dysphoria.

Eunuch isn't a gender role. The current theory about transsexuality and, more generally, transgender identities, is that they stem from an "unusual" showering of hormones as a fetus. This shower of hormones is a normal part of the process, but when something goes slightly weird, that's how it happens. Eunuch is not a gender. It is, rather, a sign of trauma which is related to a person's sexual identity. That's the difference between eunuchs and transgender people. People who would feel most comfortable as eunuchs do so because it would bypass certain traumas, which, if solved, would make the desire to become a eunuch disappear. With transgender people, that is not the case. There is no trauma that underlies gender dysphoria. It's simply an on-going process of not being able to fit in in the way that would be most comfortable for the person.

I agree that those people need help. But that help should be therapy to figure out what trauma makes people have this desire. And actually, if a person didn't want to face that trauma and instead indulge in that fetish, then I agree that they should be allowed to have surgery, because it would prevent dangerous self-surgeries. Totally agree.

But it is not a gender identity. It simply isn't. Eunuch isn't a gender. And gender queer people aren't just, as you seem to imply (sorry if that is not the case), people whose gender is somehow, magically, different from others'. Gender queer people's identity lies somewhere on the spectrum between male and female. These identities might be expressed in a number of unusual ways, but they are still on that line.

A simple proof for that, is how the people who have this desire also always (from what I have seen), come from a fetishistic background that is all about humiliation. All the people I have seen who are into this, are into it as sort of an ultimate example of humiliation, which is an attribute found in many fetishes. Spanking, a very common, and rather accepted fetish, is a very light example of a humiliation fetish. So is dirty talk. And many other fetishes like it. Of all the people I have seen who have a desire for castration (without other gender-based problems), all of them also showed a heavy interest in humiliation-related fetishes (Cock and ball torture, Small Penis Humiliation, Cuckolding, Crossdressing).

I don't see how this is valid at all. The simple truth is that I'm not either male or female... going through a 'transition' to the other gender would be trying and leave me in an equally uncomfortable position. I mean, my life's never been luxuious, but I grew up happy and healthy and unmolested. There's no trauma I'm avoiding facing, I harbor no dislike of myself and frankly, I stand by who I am. I'm not perfect but I don't feel I need to be 'punished' or 'humiliated' for being some kind of bad person. My body's just not in the right configuration.

Yes, there is a spectrum of genders between male and female. Emasculated male is, in fact, on that spectrum. How could it not be?

I want to be clear: I have spoken to a few therapists about my gender issues and transsexual therapists are happy to support my gender identity. When I've asked them if they think that there's something unreasonable about my desires, they have reassured me that I'm of sound mind and what I want isn't terrible, wrong or the result of some kind of damage. I've spent a lot of time soul-searching and changing since I first had these desires at puberty and it's taken me a long time to fully come to terms with it, and I'm only just now realizing that it should be fine for me to be open and tell others this is who I am and to expect acceptance.

What's great is that there's almost no one I've told who hasn't accepted it about me and supports my desire for surgical intervention. My partner and friends and parents have no desires related to this, but they still love me and accept me for who I am. They don't feel that I'm doing harm to myself or anyone else by pursuing this.

What's more, I finally have a great insurance plan that will cover all this going forward so I don't have to save up nearly as much to make it happen. I even have a domestic, USA surgeon selected who has assured me he sees no problem, as long as the appropriate recommendation letters are provided.

I'll admit that I'm a submissive, and I do get off on sensation play and I do like feeling a rush of embarrassment sometimes over my own desires... but I am not, as is implied by your statements, interested or excited by body shame of any kind. I feel I'm desirable, sexy and confident, just... a little weird. :P

The sad fact is that if people think that it's just a trauma--which, to be fair, it could be for an individual--they may not seek a healthy path to achieve their desire. There is a stigma around mental illness, and a fear of uncovering dark truths or being told there's something wrong with you. People do need to go to therapy and work through it and come to the right decision. That's why I'm bothering to write this post. I hope that if there are people out there who want this done, that they'll seek help and work out if it's right for them because there is hope that it could happen. Without that hope, it's impossible to take that action and believe me that's a very dark place to be.

So yeah. TL;DR: People, if you want your bits cut off it's fine, but you should go into gender therapy to do it. Other people have and it's totally okay. :P

You are mixing things up here. A gender identity in the sense of what a person thinks they are, can be related to trauma. Trauma can be a part of a gender identity. Can have an effect on it. But a person's actual gender never has anything to do with trauma. Ever. It can and will have an effect on their gender identity (what they think they are) and their gender expression. But gender is what it is.

Excuse me for that, but just for a moment, before actually tackling this, I just need to mention that in this part right here, you reek of infantile tumblrite, for whom any self-given identity needs to be respected and bent down to by society.

Whether or not something is damaging, or charged, is of no concern. It doesn't matter. What matters is the truth. Not feelings.

Having said that, I don't mean to imply that since my definition would mean that the problems of certain people would not be defined as gender dysphoria, that those problems shouldn't be dealt with. In my opinion, happiness is always the most important factor. And whether a person has unresolved trauma, or gender dysphoria, the most important thing is to make a person happy. That being said, if (as is my argument) people desiring castration simply do so for fetishistic reasons, then equating their struggle with that of transsexual/transgender people does no good for either side. Traumas don't need to be based on single, strong events. More often than not, they stem from a long-standing lack of something, or overabundance of something else. And the degree of seriousness about it doesn't mean much, either. Let me try to describe it:

Have you ever played a videogame? I'm guessing you have. Did you have fun playing it? Most likely, you did. Did you imagine the game was completely real? Most likely you did not. Fetishes are mostly like that, too. A person who is into AB/DL might roleplay being a child, knowing full well they are an adult, and yet still find pleasure in it.

But there are certain things where the degree of seriousness a person shows about it influences the joy gotten out of it. That is why we have things like religion. Or, to pick a more immediate and less controversial example, you have people who are into furry culture who actually believe they are, let's say, a wolf. Or people into small penis humiliation who actually, honestly, believe that their penis is too small to please anyone. These people thereby gain more pleasure from those areas, at the expense of reality.

Now to bring this back on-topic: No matter what your situation actually is, it is a simple fact that there are men who, for solely fetishistic, humiliating reasons, do desire castration. Go to any slightly more out-there fetish website or forum, and you will find them. You can find these people openly talking about wanting to be castrated because they deserve it, because they are inadequate, because it would degrade them even more, and that is what they are into. All it takes is for that kind of person to realise that they could not only heighten their humiliation even more by saying "I don't just want to be this pathetic. I am this pathetic.", but that they could also gain societal acceptance by hijacking transgender-terminology, and the result would be a person with just the same arguments and attitudes as you.

"Emasculated" is not a gender. And it is not a coincidence that you are sexually submissive. If my arguments about you are correct (which they might not be), then you would not be the first at all, in fact. There are lots of stories of male fetishistic crossdressers, who used transsexual issues and a healthy dose of denial to get sex-reassignment surgery, only to (after a while) end up completely regretting it.

Now. All that being said. I do genuinely wish you the very best, although I am still a little mad that too many people nowadays hijack serious issues which are already difficult enough, only to make them seem even worse. People on tumblr either make transsexual people seem like childish rebels who want all the rights, and none of the responsibilites (die cis scum and all that), or make them seem like infantile "special snowflakes". Like a group called "transtrenders", who treat transsexuality as an identity, something you can simply choose to be because it is "cool". And meanwhile, you still have lots of people who just plain hate transsexual people because they have been misinformed about them to the degree where they equate transsexual people and fetishistic crossdressers. And then, something like this comes up. I'm sure you can understand my carefulness about this.

But, after all, I might still be wrong. For example, you might actually simply be a genderqueer person who simply fits kind of in the middle, and castration is your way of getting there. Seems like the wrong direction to me, but that would certainly differ from you simply having a fetish. And no matter which one of these is the truth, I do still wish you the best. No one should have to live an unhappy life.

Last year, i took my mate to a counselor who specializes in TG psychology, because my mate felt the need to remove his bits. Through the course of the session, the furry fandom was brought up, the counselor was vaguely familiar with it. He was however, more familiar with the "therian" community and ideologies. My mate then mentioned that he was one of those who felt that not just his gender, but his species as a whole was wrong. The counselor went on to explain, that species dysphoria is possible, but that widely the psychiatric community hadn't explored the possibility because there were not enough reported instances of patients identifying this quality. I was quite shocked to see a mental health professional express such a validating view on such an "out there" topic. So, much like when gender dysphoria was first being recognized, maybe one day we will arrive at a point where species dysphoria is too.

I would be careful with that. Denial, wishful thinking and other psychological mechanisms can be incredibly deceiving. That's the reason why therapy exists. To figure out where a person's desires, or fears, come from, since the obvious path is not always the right one. Violent people, for example, feel better when they commit violent acts. That doesn't mean that that is the best way to deal with it. Violent tendencies also often stem from trauma. So while I'm happy you feel comfortable with yourself, the reasons for how you feel might not be the ones you think they are.

That seems quite shocking to me, too. Since gender dysphoria and species dysphoria have nothing in common with eachother. Gender dysphoria has physiological reasons, while species dysphoria always has psychological ones.
