Furry artists: male <-> female ratio?

1 Report	at 6 Jul 2006: 04:18 I have always wondered, are the majority of furry artists male or female? This has always startled me because I know females are more likely into cute animals, drawing art, etc than males are, but I could be wrong. Can anyone help clarify this for me?

FYI, more often then not, the female artists tend to create male characters that are loved by a huge number of gay furries, where is the males create female characters highly loved by the hetro furries.
3 Report	Aikon at 6 Jul 2006: 12:45 I think there's slightly more male artists right now, but there's a LOT more female artists than there were 10 years ago. Look at Yerf where something like 90% of the active artists are female. I think pretty soon it will be about equal. FurAffinity seems to have a nice ratio of male and female artists, (More male than female) but it seems to have a huge number of male fans.
4 Report	at 6 Jul 2006: 13:03 er...of all my friends that are artists, I had a lot [more then I can count on my hand, three times over] and all of them were female, and one or two male...that'd say something about the ratio no? Fans on the other hand yes, men I think own that ratio.

If you look at it, the majority of the 'top' names (DarkNatasha, GoldenWolfen, ect.) do very little 'adult' art, whereas your more popular porn artists are generally male (Zen, Adam Wan, ect.)

9 Report	at 6 Jul 2006: 20:12 A forum had a similar poll and IIRC, it was a ratio of about 2/3 male artists to 1/3 female with about 200 respondants.
10 Report	at 7 Jul 2006: 14:13 if you ask on a porn board, you get more male artists. if you ask on a non-porn board, you get more female artists. which makes it kinda hard to get an accurate approximation.

More male artists if you're talking adult furry art, and more female artists if you're talking non-adult furry art. The OP can base his conclusions (is there more adult furry art than non-adult) from that.

Seems like a fair tradeoff, and I think it's the most accurate because of all the non-porn sites that have females as the majority. In the end though, the majority of furry fans is definitely males, guarenteed. :P
