No furry avatars on the Wii

The Nintendo Wii will feature the ability to create "Mii" avatars that will be used in a handful of games like Wii Sports and WarioWare. However, the character generator is very simplistic. It appears to be limited to human faces. It doesn't even appear to offer cat ears.

Here are some links to the Wii's avatar generator:

Why do you call it limited?  Last I checked only humans play videogames.

The point of the avatar is to make something that looks like the player...I mean this is going to be seen by everyone you play with online. It's supposed to be a representation of your real-life self.

You don't get to make 'furry' avatars for Xbox Live ether. Why is this even a topic?

>>8 You know that point is just going to WOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH over most furries heads.

Furrys need to be thankful. With the rep that furries have, if you could upload custom avatars, you would have people using the "Avoid this player" feature in spades.

Good.  I'm sick of furries always trying to flaunt it to everyone that they are, in fact, a furry.  No one cares, and those that do only take notice so they can flame/insult the person.  It's pretty much like painting a target on yourself.

Um...  So, then, that's like some sort of internalized anti-furry sentiment now.  Wow, the psychological depths of this 'fusecution' idea get deeper and deeper with every passing drama-fest.

I love furries.  As a group, they're so interesting...  Even if half the time (or more) it's in the WTF kinda way.  :)

>>11 While some 'do' flaunt it, I think most just want personal avatars that reflect their 'furryhood' as sort of a way for other furries to find them. I can't talk as I use a Chocobo as my icon on Live..but bitching about the Wii being unable to create 'furry' or even 'neko' avatars is stupid.

I'm sorry.  I must have missed all the posts by the legions of furries genuinely upset about the Mii thing following the OP's post.  They seem to have gone missing.  Where are they?

That's what >>11 was saying. Some "flaunt it" everywhere, and then complain when they're discriminated against. Desperate for attention or not, flaunting that you're a furry in a mainly non-furry community will lead to far more negative than positive results.

When pretending you're an animal becomes accepted in mainstream culture, I'll be eatting an ice cream cone from Satan.

The Wii is supposed to be a "for everyone" console
The Mii customization is made to be simple and "for everyone"
So everyone can put themselves in the game in a small way.
So unless you have real aniaml ears and tail, then you really have nothing to complain about.
Though if you really want to be more origonal you can always wait till the hacks get out there.
Ya know very well that if the Mii system uses any kind of image file to make the faces, then it'll be customizable enough for furry stuff if one so wanted.
However, most likely nintendo wants this system to be a one shot perfect deal.
Since they REALLY dont want poeple making nakid things or sexual parts as their Miis.
Funny yes, but little kids and grandma's.... ok just little kids, would be truamatized or luaghing like crazy depending on the age. Either way, nintendo would have a hard to clearing it up.
Its one thing to draw really bad 32x32 porn in Mario Kart, but when you get more pixels to play with, it makes things a little too detailed for a company to ignore.
Either way,
the fact of the matter is HOW do they make the Miis and HOW are they compiled together.
Most likely its just a piece by piece thing preloaded on each console, so it'll be unhackable unless you only care about your client side of view. (wich would take alot of hacking to do with  preloaded pieces anyway)

So bottom line, if you want to make something more unique and personalized, then you'll just have to wait till the homebrewers get their intell and some hacks get out there.

Untill then we'll just have to enjoy what we have.
Cant wait to see how they work already xD
I really wanna mess with the save data that goes in the Wiimotes ;3

Namco should do some deal where you can make a Mii model for the Prince of All Cosmos (perhaps a 'Custom Cousin'), that you could then use in a Katamari game if they ever decide to make one.

Perhaps titled... Wii Love Katamari?

I think it could be interesting to have furry stuff in the wii.  However, I think that would increase the amount of work that nintendo would have to do far more than exponentially.

They'd have to create appearances for pretty much every animal, aliens, fish, robots, fantasy animal, insect, reptile, and even objects.

I think it's fine that nintendo is sticking or at least starting with humans.  It's a realistic first attempt at something that is extremly complicated.  I have a feeling that the next system will have furry or at least neko parts.  Until then, I say just have fun playing those furryish games that Nintendo normally makes.
