Use of "chibi" in rules?

I'm just wondering about this... the guide on what qualifies as "furry" as given by fchan includes this:

"Funny Animal/Toon: Funny animals are your very stylized cartoon furries. Anime fans may all them "chibi." They are mostly like the an Animal-human Hybrid, but much less defined. Examples of these would be Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, or most of the Tiny Toons characters."

Now, I don't have a problem with chibis being placed in /toon/ rather than on the main boards - they're a special interest, and while it's a mistake to think of them as children, I know some people can't seperate the super-deformed body style from physical immaturity. Fair enough - physical appearance is the only way we can *meaningfully* differentiate between children and adults.

But reading this left me kind of wondering. Isn't chibi its own distinct "style", for lack of a better word? It's not a word to describe toony-looking characters like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. It seems bizarre to me, the way it's used as such here. Surely it would be better to just say that 'toons' also includes characters which are in the anime-inspired chibi/super-deformed (very exaggeratedly stylised and small-bodied) style.

Yeah, it's not a big deal. I'm not trying to have a big cry about it and stir up drama, or be some anime elitist screaming about how everybody misunderstand my kind. I just thought it was weird.

Apparently you skipped over the sentence "Anime fans may call them 'chibi'." I draw your attention especially to the word "may", meaning "would possibly" (without implication of certainty).

I noticed that, I just don't think it's *accurate*. Anime fans, of all people, would call chibi "chibi", not looney-tunes-esque characters.
