Oh Raven is great and all, cept Iv known no less than 7 different people over the years to use the name...
Whereas Xeno is slightly more origional, but he is also prone to grumpyness.
But its our imperfections that make us all who we are. Mods just have a more difficult time at it all.

"I have a pretty hard time stating my opinions. Every time I do, someone gets offended and likes to complain about it."

Yeah, yeah, Raven, that's what they /all/ say.

;)

I'm a mod elsewhere. I know the drill (unfortunately!). You do good work keeping it reasonable and I thank you.

Its all just politics. The mayor of Cleveland says he dosnt like potatos, no one takes offense. But the moment the president says so, everyone in Idaho is going to be up in roars saying the president has a bias against them.
Silly Idahoans, the president only hates middleasters and the jews.

I have been thinking of changing the name I go by simply for that reason. I don't want to be confused with other Ravens. If one of them does or says something stupid on another site, someone might think it was me. The problem is that I can't think of anything I like.

The only reason I chose this name was because it was fairly generic. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. I wasn't given a lot of time to think something up, so I went with this. I would have used one of my other names, but I was told not to. And over time, I've come to be known exclusively by this, rendering any of my old aliases rather obsolete.

Perhaps I should let everyone vote on a new callsign for me? My only fear is that "Arseface" would probably win out. :P

Pro: It'd certainly be unique! Doubt anyone would want to steal that name from you.
Con: ...You probably shouldn't be modding /c/ with a name like that, however, should you? ;)

As for a new name, consider the aspects of yourself. Are you more atatched to Earth, Fire, Water, Lightning, Life, Air, Light, or Dark? Are you more introvertive or extrovertive? What kind of weapon would you use?
If all of that sounds like shit, just choose a name that sounds good XP. Raven always sounds good, but again, there are ALOT of Ravens out there. And suddenly I want to see Xeno change his name to Beno.... Hmmmm....

Ill pretend I understood that.

27Report

Well, I don't mean to high-jack the thread or needlessly interject, but if High Overlord Piemast...er, Raven really is looking for a new name and suggestions would help...then yay! ^^  It would be good if it helps prevent people from getting confused.  And then fchan's Wikifur entry link to Raven wouldn't lead to an entry about...well, ravens. ;)

I hope some of these seem alright, or at least raise some new ideas:

First, let’s start with something simple.  Here's "Raven" in some different languages:

Corbeau - French
Hollo - Hungarian
Corvo - Italian/Portugese
Cuervo - Spanish
Karasu - Japanese
Rabe - German
Raaf - Dutch
Korp - Swedish
Hraefn - Middle/Old English

On a related note, Corvus Corax is the Latin scientific name for the Raven. Woohoo Latin! ^^

Ravens and even "Raven" appear in many mythologies, similar to Coyote in some cases.

In one North America myth, Raven appears as Nankilstlas (whose name translates to "He whose voice must be obeyed").  ^^

In Norse mythology, High-Father Odin's thought and memory where incarnated into the ravens Huginn and Muginn (respectively).

Also, Morvran was the name of a character in Celtic mythology associated with the Raven.

During Roman times, the first level of the cult of Mithras was Raven.

And many other things besides. Sun-Stealers, white ravens, and all that good stuff. ;) Of course, this all assumes Raven is looking for a name with some relation to Raven.

Names generally have a meaning in and of themselves, but they can also convey many different things.  Raven, for example, can convey a the idea of a regal and majetic bird, or a dark and mysterious one.

You can find the meaning behind a lot of names here: http://www.behindthename.com/ .  If there's a specific definition you're looking for, you can use a google site search to find names that match.

But hey, why use someone else's name when you can create one yourself!  Here's the best site I've found to be straight and to the point about the impact of letters and their sounds: http://www.conknet.com/~mmagnus/Names.html

I hope that helps some and didn't just bore everyone to death.  Good luck with everything, Raven! ^^

I have already considered using "Corbeau." I'm not sure if I like it, though. I use the name Raven not because of the bird, but because of other meanings. And because it just sounds cool.

One of the biggest problems I see with changing my name is that it may confuse people. Also, to keep my email proper, I'd have to change that too. And it would be bad if that cause some emails to get lost. :/

Name changes aren't really all that bad, just use both names new and old for a while, people will catch on.

When I was young and finally got around to online gaming, something told me Paladin would be a cool name. Started thinking that was generic and simple as time went on, somehow came up with Driftlock while playing cs, lotta friends thought it sounded cool, ended up calling me Drift.

Might still sound generic, but I don't see many others around using it as a nametag.

If you get an idea I say go with it. I'm sure there's plenty of people in the same boat as you...I sometimes feel like making something unique, but a combination of lazyness/randomness/carelessness comes over me and I allow the name to follow me everywhere...

Annnnnd... >>31 Only because he wants the name for himself... "Funkadoodlecat" Yeah....sound awesome ;)

That's if you believe in that kind of thing. Many people would argue it doesn't work that way.

I'm personally skeptical of just about everything. If it's supposed to work a certain way, I expect to experience it first hand. So far, I haven't. :/

Foxon at 30 Jan 2007: 01:22

lmao! Thats true.

Its not much of a believe thing, it works more like a fetish thing. If you experience certain things when you were younger, you may just grow acustom to it in time, and when your older, youll grow to love it. (sounds gross but its true)

Some people may not experience those things, or you may be skeptical like Raven. ;)

Guess what mine is...  Heh.  Yes, I've been a wolf for many, many years, and wouldn't change it one bit.  I find that the more you realize you're just like that animal, the better you are.  I, myself, take pride in knowing that I am very intellegent, quiet, strong-willed, and have a sense of honor that not many around me seem to even possess, let alone have any sort of inkling towards respect.

I digress, take care of your inner animal and it in turn shall take care of you in ways you never thought possible before.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. I'll say that whether I agree with them or not.

Though, I must point out that true belief in spirit totems does not make someone an animal. It's supposed to be a certain kind of medicine (energy) that follows a person throughout life. Being someone that studies religion, I feel the need to explain that.
