/flash removal

Just so everyone knows, the /flash board is now closed. This is due to the apparent lack of enough content to justify keeping the board, and the amount of drama that tends to appear there as a result.

Flash art may now be posted to ANY board (with the exception of /b) and should be posted on the APPROPRIATE board based upon content, just like regular images.

The board, itself, has been left intact until most people are aware of the change, however the ability to post have been removed and a notice has been placed at the top.

lol, i feel the /herm board is going to go next, serious lack of posting in there as well, Its only a matter of time really.

Might i add here if that happens, I'm pretty sure all herm stuff well be melded with a/.

If that happens - and there is no plan for it yet - yes, all herm material would be moved to /a.

A bigger reason for the move would be because people continue to post the wrong material to /h, not because it's a smaller board.

For some reason, those who browse /h seem to have a more difficult time following the rules on a regular basis.

What would happen if the flash would fit into more than one board?  I know of several larger flashes that have content that would fit into /m, /f, /s, and /toon all at the same time..

6Report(capped)
Gravecat at 17 Apr 2007: 08:50

>>5 It depends which boards it'd fit on, really. If it's something that'd be a combination of /m, /f, /s, and/or /h, it could live happily on /a -- but please, not to be using /a as a dumping ground for flashes that could go elsewhere.

/toon tends to be a board in and of itself, which contains straight/gay/both pictures, so if a flash looks like it'd probably belong on /toon, then that's probably where it should be.

And, naturally, it follows the same rules as regular pictures, so the 'harder' fetishes would still live on /ah.

As usual, Gravecat is right on.

Also remember to post your flashes like normal images, in threads about specific things. If you post a flash and go, "Look at this flash, then discuss!" and nothing else is posted, the thread will be removed. Same as with all threads that don't go anywhere in the way of content.

Question - What does this mean for image size restrictions? Are SWFs now limited to 3000KB like images, or are they still 12000KB?

Drakis Kier at 19 Apr 2007: 14:37

this is just a passing thought, but perhaps the mods could think about a /o/ orgy board....   designed for images of multiple characters, allowing anything from m/m/f to m/f/f to m/h/f...    it would relieve the stress of having something thats got both homosexual and heterosexual content being tossed into /a/...

could also be called /mx/ mixed genders

just my CDN$0.02

I don't think there's enough content of that type to justify a board. It does fine on /a, so I don't see a reason to change it.

Oh, that would be easy to do if you combined a jpg or png file with an mp3 or rar file.

Not that doing that would make much sense.

Please do not remove the /h/ board. I've been posting in there daily - it's not all that /a/, it's neither /s/ nor /m/ nor /f/, and I think it deserves to exist.

I don't really want to, but whether or not that happens will really depend on whether or not people get with the programme and stop causing problems there.

>>18

Meh. /flash was a cesspool of drama that caused more problems than it resolved. It's much easier to allow posting of flashes on other boards.

I have to agree, there where plenty of threads with 150+ posts of people screaming and yelling at each other why a flash Sucks/does not suck, and there would only be 1 or 2 flashes in that thread. Kinda pointless really becuase all that argument should have been taken to /dis, if most people had done that, they might still have a flash board.

When its DNP or not allowed for some other reason, than it is. Deal with it and learn to respect the artists who don't want there stuff posted.

So let me get this straight.  You're going to constantly delete the least popular board?  So then in a year or so, well be down to two or three boards with everything on it?  I miss /tent/, and now I'm going to miss /flash/ as well.

/toon/ cannot go! It's one of the best boards in the hole of the Fchan empire!

What I like about it is that it has both genders mixed. (without the horrors of /a/... no offense)

Thent was a failed board in it own right, the post count was horrendously low, 6 times as low as /flash/ ever could be, and it didn't wareent its own board, Same when /tent/ was on yiff fap, When it first came up tons of posts where being made, than about a week later it more or less sat there with extremely little activity. Make a thread in /a/ for tent and be done with it already.

The only board that may go is /h/, and the mods clearly stated the reasons why.

Yes, thank you.

Now those of you who can't read may continue to form baseless theories of what we might do, but all you're really doing is getting yourselves all worked up for no reason at all. Things like that tend to make people look foolish.

>>24 Most of the artists on the DNP are very damn good artists, Many have legit issues for not wanting to be here, such as /anon fan treatment of artist's works, allowing cubporn to be posted
or just the overall "God, a chan, lol." feeling that infects all chan type boards, something Raven and Xeno have fought tooth and nail to deal with.

>>17 The issue with herm is just about all of it's content can be summed up in three threads or less in /a/ and it is the most underpreforming board currently active because /artist/ doesn't count. Oh yeah and the idiot drama and /dis/ fests. Raven does get sick of that shit and so do other mods. /a/ and /ah/ don't draw as much drama as /h/ does.

Can someone go ahead and organize all the flashes for each male, female, herm, etc board into a single thread? its hard finding stuff now

36Report
AidenIsHot at 18 May 2007: 05:52

Flash didn't get updated all that much, but is there a way to list flash files separate from the pics so that we can find them easier?  It would just be up to the poster to put some identifier on their post like **FLASH** so it would be recognized by the system to go on to another list or at the very list be easily found as a flash within the list.

If I could find a way to include some kind of chan-flash-board on my gallery… hmm…
Also I started tagging the flash files (f,m,h,bj,fj.mm…m aso.) and I could use a helping hand/paw ;)

I started doing that when I dumped off all my /flash/ shit in the huge reboot that led to the closure of /flash/.

>>36

Know why /flash/ wasn't updated all that much? It was because of me. I reposted all the flashes I could save before the big collapse and put them all into one huge thread so that people could find their favorite flashes in one easy-to-find thread. Unfortunately, that was too easy for some people, and so /flash/ was closed. And I *really* don't feel like taking a half an hour to repost those Krotsgeir flashes to /f/ and /s/.

Xenofur at 19 May 2007: 17:00

Alright, update on this: I've poked the code and made it so that whenever a flash (*.swf) is posted in a thread, the thread title gets this little flash logo added. You can check it out on /c, should be easy to find. :)

I thought /flash, like /tent was closed down more due to the fact everything that had been posted there was mostly reposts of the same material.
