well I was recently on drunkduck.com browsing through the forums when I found this post: http://www.drunkduck.com/community/view_topic.php?tid=28633&cid=244.  I was surprised to see that someone who wasn't furry would defend furries to this degree, and am actually happy to see someone actually admit that although they aren't a furry they still enjoy furry art and respect the artists.  I commend this man for being so accepting and open minded.  I vote that he be the next president of the internets :3

Someone needs to register there and post the following image for "Red Slayer"

Well... I think he got the point across well enough.  The people who responded to him obviously are just saying their stuff for the lols.

Who cares. Stay in the damn closet my friend if you are a hardcore furry, as their time has not yet come. I think you will find a general tolerance for furry lovers from most level minded people. And full tolerance from people who know that the person wont act on the impluse (like a loli fan going out and fucking a child) and is safe to society.

But. Do people have to tolerate furry fans? Nope. Were still a joke to most people, and the internet is a tough place. Get them to attack you IRL for it... THEN we got something.

>>1 Why does a hobby that's been mutated into a sort of freakish lifestyle for a number of introverted sad little people need much if any defending? Or is this a way of saying "I want to wear my Genus Male/ASB T-shirts and foxtails and collars in public and if anyone mocks me, I demand to be defended!"

So sorry guys but the ACLU isn't coming running to your defence yet. Remember, it's a freaking hobby. No one has to know you do it. It's not like anime or video games. The sooner you come to terms with this, the better.

WTF mate?  So anime and videogames are more than a hobby?

To some people, it's their LIFE.  Sad, really.

Also, when people think anime and videogames they usually don't think the things they do with furry.

Not unless they travel into hentai sites anyway, but even then...

>>6 No, I mean that unlike video games or anime it's not a hobby you can proclaim out loud you love and support. It's not a 'accepted' by the masses hobby.

It wasn't always that way...

There was a time when you could not proclaim out loud that you were a fan of RPGs. In the 80s, RPGs were called "Satanic"! The mainstream news media warned parents to watch their kids and make sure they don't get involved with "Dungeons&Dragons". Many schools banned RPGs, and kept Fantasy literature out of the libraries. The Harry Potter books played a significant role in changing the perception of Fantasy.

Even Anime wasn't exactly "accepted". In the early 90s, Anime was associated mostly with "Akira" and "Legend of the Overfiend" because those were the Anime videos most readily traded in the U.S., and the Anime clubs and fandom actively advertised anime as violent and sexual! The perception of Anime turned around when a) the Anime clubs started dieing off, b) people started associating "Anime" with more kid-friendly shows like Pokemon, and c) the Anime fandom became infused with pre-teens and young-teens.

Things change. All it took for Fantasy and Anime to gain acceptance was for the hard-core fans to STFU!, and a mainstream book or tv show to use the genre in a positive way.

>>10 Furry isn't a genre though. It's a hobby/lifestyle to what..20k people worldwide? How can the mainstream shine a positive light on a fandom? Trekkies still get made fun of and you know what, they got used to it. I don't get this "All they need to see is we aren't all a bunch of pervs" mindset, for god sakes while you might have to dig to find the scary side of other fandoms, you can open the front door and find all of the good and bad of furry mixed in one.

Furry is no less a genre than anime or sci-fi.

To otoku who collect manga and watch hours of anime each week, anime is a hobby. To trekkies who wear StarFleet uniforms and address each other by rank, Star Trek is a lifestyle. But many other people enjoy anime and Star Trek without it becoming a hobby or lifestyle. Likewise, many people enjoy furry art without turning it into a lifestyle. Anime, sci-fi, and furry can be lifestyles, but to many they are just genres.

As for "20k people worldwide"... when PlayMouse.com was around they had that many registered users, and that's just one site!

>>12 It's impossable to claim 20k people registered to a internet site are 20k people IRL. Let's just be nice and say what, 50k? There's various levels of intrest in furry from the guy who looks at the porn and nothing else to the guy who wakes up under lion printed sheets with a room full of plush, spends a few hours or more every day on the various Mucks, and furry sites, then attends 2-6 cons a year.

That said, there's big money in Sci-Fi, Anime and Video Games and that's because all are largely mainstream. Not so with furry.
