A few words about censorship

I recently opened a thread in which I asked for a staff's statement and general user opinnion of the zoophile pictures which regularly get postet in feral/non-anthro theads on toon. I'm DO NOT want to use thread for this topic instead, since it isn't really liked around here, but Id like to ask a statement on another topic: Censorship.

You see, my thread was deleted. There are different reasons, it could be technical difficulties or maybe I chose a wrong tone. I admit, the time I posted I was kind of upset, and I apologize. But even if it sounded offensive, isn't a moderators job to ask me to check my speech and calm down instead of censoring the whole thing? This way, the thread never existed. I understand that topics, exploding because of drama, get closed. But even then, they don't get deleted. If someone said something offensive, advise him to stop doing it. If he doesn't listen, ban him. That's the way it should work, but there is no reason to "protect" others by censoring ones posts.

So, why am I writing this? Because I searched the thread list and there are two other threads involving the zoophile question. And in both threads, certain posts have been entirely removed. Judging by the remaining posts, the deleted ones sounded "offensive" against zoophiles, whereas last group is free to say anything. Pro is okay, but Con have to think carefully what they say.

I agree that it's a requirement for discussion to stay polite and don't get rude. But it happens sometimes. In this case, moderators should "moderate" the discussion and - if there is no improvement - remove the elements of disturbance. But I don't consider censorship a legitimate way of moderating.

Hi, other german person.

I haven't seen the thread you spoke about, but to answer some of your points:
First off, zoophilia is not regarded as a part of fchan, period. Secondly, these threads, due to their nature and due to trolls, ALWAYS devolve completely and are as such usually worthless even as a simple mental exercise. Thus we do not want these threads here, at all.

Next, you mentioned you wanted to address staff. I have no idea what you're asking, but unless you live under a rock you know that the topic is highly volatile and should also know to contact staff directly and in private. Quite honestly: As far as I am concerned, if a person wants to say something, and they do not think it is important enough to get on IRC and contact me personally; then I think what they want to say is not worth being listened to. (That is of course different when i ask something here.)

As for removal of posts, first off something you need to know: Advising people to stay polite does not work, period. This has two reasons:
1. Many people are just plain dumb and stupid and are not mentally capable of communicating on a level where they would be able to know how to express themselves politely.
2. There is quite a number of hidden trolls, who write posts that seem alright on the surface but are designed to incite responses by people in the first group. I am in fact honestly pondering whether your post is meant to be one such post.

Next up, we remove posts in instances where the front page rules are broken. Impoliteness, legality or hidden trolling mainly. These posts have no merit by themselves other to disturb. We do NOT remove posts that are offensive to certain groups. If someone were to say that he is of the opinion that all zoophiles are mentally disturbed and need the attention of a psydoc, then that would be offensive to them, but is worded correctly and would be allowed to stay. Another person saying they are all insane retards would get their post deleted, because it has no merit and would only have negative causes.

Lastly: Yes, furries need to be protected of themselves. To be utterly blunt, the vast majority of them are mal-adjusted hormonal teenagers who barely have the ability to communicate in a normal social setting and are completely incapable of recognizing when they are being played by trolls. This is not just a theory or prejudice, this is 3 years of experience.

Guess it must have been the bad grammar which showed my nationality XD I apologize.

I didn't mean to troll with this thread. The reason why I posted here and not in IRC is that if I want to adress something taking place on the site, I post it on this site. And since the mods have to check the boards regularily, someone will read this and answer to it. It wasn't meant as a question on a specific mod or topic either, so my guess was that a general question would best be asked in general and not in private. And the second reason is that I don't use IRC and don't have a client. This and occasional lazyness equal this thread ;)

Thank you for your answer, it's statisfying enough. A pornographic furry chan imageboard with the possibility of anonymous posting doesn't seem to be such a good place to discuss, it's something which sometimes slips my mind. I still consider deleting/censoring posts wrong, since sometimes something which was said between rude lines is still important and necessary to read for other people who want to follow the discussion, but I understand your point as well.

Maybe it'd be time to remove the anonymus posting to calm things down a bit? But I'm pretty sure your team already discussed the matter.

If you're still assuming I'm a "hidden troll" then feel free to close this thread, I got my answer. Ans as a foot note, I'd like to mention that if it's possible to ban cub art and to define somewhat clear guidelines on what is allowed and what not, the same thing should be possible to avoid realistic/zoophile pics being posted in non-morphic threads.

Thanks.
