Why are furries so weird IRL?

...except that the "furry porn community" and the general furry community are pretty much one in the same. That's the point/problem.

9/10.  It's a tried and true topic guaranteed to strike a big nerve with a notoriously whiny sub-group.  Also, it's a short and blunt statement that can really only be contradicted by a NO U.  Win troll.

"cut yourself off from furry for a while, and better yet the internet; eventually your sexual urges will be directed at humans, unless of course you're particularly vigilant perish the thought whenever it arises. I don't see why you'd do this though."

1) I _am_ that vigilant.
2) And I don't see why I'd do that either.

"'Furry' cannot be an actual sexual orientation, although it can be a fetish that has taken over your sexual psyche."

If you really want to get down to the nitty-gritty, it can be; the word orientation (by itself) can be defined as persuation/bearing/location/direction/position relative to a 'more distant,' steadier vantage than immediate surroundings, this could be an object, person, place thing, idea, etc. depending on context. And 'sexual' is ofcourse an adjective connoting sex, copulation, reproduction, or impulses derived therefrom.
Only with more narrow social stipulation is 'do u liek boise ohr gurlce(?)' exclusively incurred.

"Our particular society finds sexual relations between an adult and a minor abhorrent. Furry does not, and in some ways encourages these types of fantasies."

Okay. At the point where it's still fantasy, specify actual harm.

"Pedophilia is sexual feelings directed at children; "Cub" is furry children in sexual situations. How is this not pedophilic?"

Cub is pedophillic technically, but as in the above response, the difference between Cub and Pedophilia proper lies in the pursuit of satisfying the tendency.

>>53 "...only option is to enjoy what it can from the fandom as clandestinely as possible before severing all ties and contact with it in order to prevent their names from being associated with a level of deviancy..."

Okay. You also mentioned this in >>74.
Are you serious about jumping ship just because there's a trend toward deviancy in the fandom? Like every semi-random swath of people there will always be a continuum of some sort, meaning on the one end you'll get 'clean' artists who won't draw so much as a mildly suggestive pose, and then the folks who dig some of the stuff you'll find on /ah/. Why not just simply stay on the 'shallow end,' sotospeak?
And concerning actually being 'associated' with Furry, who's to know? You'll note that there are plenty of (non-furry) bondage sites out there, and they and their members hardly get in the news atall, or, better said, they get in the news all the time for their non-sexual exploits, and it's not possible to tell who they are just by looking... those who don't feel they need to announce their kinks to the world just keep it to themselves, and so, I expect, shall Furry come to be i.e.: DADT works for more than just the armed forces.

well your sexual urges for humans should not be replaced by made-up anthropomorphic creatures. (besides its more of a sub category of porn for me, not a replacement.)

Fursuits freak me the shit out to no end.
buuuut... i belive if someone likes something, its allowed.
so long as they arent physically or mentally hurting anyone (but themselves, as is the case with some, keheheh) - unless its concenting

i like the art, and the art-porn only. apart from that, i'm a regular guy, with a kinky secret.

furries are weird in real-life because the few people that are dedicated enough to actually go to a furcon are the ones who have irreversibly sunken into a pit of depravity. they've lost the ability to care what others think about them.

now I am not going to lie, having a fursuit is just fucking wierd (and since I saw that episode of "wired for sex" so are the furcons) but I don't know maybe I see it as wierd because of the fact that my character is always human (and that the only furries...... er.... scallies that are interresting are female and drawn not costumes) Now the day they start gene splicing maybe, but not for now hell NO!

Orientation:

Nothing about you forces you to seek out furry material to satisfy sexual urges except force of habit. You would not be asexual without furry art because you already have the sexual urges to begin with. They would surface eventually in some other way without furry porn.

Pedophilia:

I'm not interested in debating the merits of this particular fetish, and that discussion is against the rules of fchan /dis/ anyway. As I said before, the only reason I brought it up is because it is a good example of the things common and accepted in the furry fandom that society at large finds abhorrent. If we consider as an aside that I do in fact find it abhorrent as society does, I so now have two reasons to not want my name and reputation mixed in with furry. The ostracism that will follow for one, and said ostracism being applied to me for something that is not even part of me for another.

Jumping ship:

If you can even call it "jumping ship," I'm quite serious. It's not that there's a 'trend' toward extreme deviancy in the fandom; the fandom is mainly comprised of extreme deviancy in the first place. I've known a few who have stuck to at least relatively 'clean' artwork in the fandom, but they eventually left. You notice that the artists who get the most popularity and the most business are the ones that either produce stimulating pornography or cater to a particular fetish, right? There is a reason for that.

I don't deny that the continuum of deviancy exists, and I've even mentioned similar ideas in earlier posts. However, it is naive to think that the continuum is spread evenly. The affect this has is that less and less material I really enjoy will be produced and it will become harder and harder to convince anyone that I'm really not in to things like zoophilia, pedophilia, etc.

So, when the liability aspect outweighs the entertainment value I certainly will "jump ship." It'd be silly to stay involved with it when I don't enjoy it anymore, and sillier still to also waste effort trying to keep it a secret when I could just as easily let it go and not have it as a secret that needs keeping.

this post might be deleted or something but heres what I ran across ,was talking to my friend when a guy heard my friend say "furry" he thought we where against it and referred us to this site http://www.godhatesfurries.com/index.php which lead lead us to some scary anti-fur cult sites... some of these people are sick, stabbing   fur look alike dolls for a hobby, tracking people down just beat them up. I dont know which is worse, the anti furs or the furs that take it lil too far(exp: Anna's report on furries,or the ones you see on news making a fool of them selfs) ,I mean I'm furry too but I'm in the same boat as post at 25 Jul 2008: 21:51.

I'm weird in the sense that I have long hair, tattoos, piercings in strange places and an unusual lifestyle. I wouldn't say I'm weird like the OP is talking about though. I don't own a fursuit and don't run around wearing a stuffed tail or anything. I have relatively normal hobbies like BMX racing and rockclimbing. Just got a new 09 GT power series 24, woot! I have a social life and get laid with real people, etc. I'm not obsessed with the fandom and I can and do enjoy other things. I think the real weirdos are caused by people trying to make furry a way of life for some reason. It's when they have no social life outside yiffing people online and run around with stuffed tails hanging out of their tatty sweatpants that they start seeming like weirdos.
