Answer to original question: No.
All private files are stored in one truecrypt file on my external HD (it's simply a 40 GB file named "private"). I take the drive with me when I go to LANs or need bigger storage at university and even lend it to others on such ocassions (of course I have a backup in case someone would delete my stuff accidentally). If someone asks what that huge "private"-file contains, I simply explain how truecrypt works (and give them a copy if they are interested) and that the file isn't named "private" just for fun.
So, I don't have a problem with people knowing I have a secret or two. But I'm pretty good at keeping it, because I don't see how telling anybody would bring me or them any benefit.

infosec guy here.
Been going ten years without a single problem, including a professional audit on systems which I use this process on. I use a similar process for my furry fetish indulgence as I do for my 'extra legal' activities. Portable hard drive with encrypted a TrueCrypt partition (including inner/hidden container) with keyfile based encryption (Overkill for you guys but much more resistant to bruteforce attacks), mounted within a live disc operating system (Usually a stripped down linux system). I occasionally use services like Tor depending on the situation (I run an exit node so don't annoy me about wasting b/w on porn, also an offtopic note, death be to those that use bittorrent through Tor).
Only difference really is for my extra-legal activities I run them within a VMWare image, sometimes the whole process is done remotely but that's not relevant here.
TrueCrypt Partition on a Portable Harddrive used by Live Disc Operating on a Trusted Machine is the way to go for ultimate protection, resistance to most practical forms of forensic examination.
By the sounds of it though most of you aren't about to be investigated by a bunch of DFIs who have years of experience of forensics so I suggest just installing TrueCrypt, setup a file container on a flash drive, put some chaff files into the outer container then create an outer/hidden container containing all your evil naughty files.

@104 - I thought it was kind of obvious where I worked at perhaps 103 might help
@106 - From 100 "...with keyfile based encryption" so yeah.
@107 - Yeah because we all know that all those that use encryption must be evil extremist-criminal-terrorist-pedophiles, give me a break, I guarantee you've used encryption before without even knowing it...
I do it because I can and it isn't that hard, the effort it takes to do is really is minimal if you know what you're doing. How stupid would it look if I got busted for my dirty (but legal mind you) porn habits when it's my job to investigate other people? It would be unnecessarily embarrassing and so simple to prevent.
The question is not why I do it, but why aren't you guys doing it? Even setting up something as simple as TrueCrypt even with just a normal file container with a passphrase is alot better than doing silly crap like renaming folders to be like files and changing icons, appending RAR files to images or just putting a folder in an unusual place etc. If the use of encryption became common place through out all computing (not just porn) there would be less successful breaches of privacy, less industrial espionage and overall better personal and corporate protection of data.
It would also make my job harder now that I think about it.... I've had a change of heart, continue on with your substandard obfuscation! Nothing to see here! :)

I have an external hard drive with a TrueCrypt partition that a back up my furry and other pr0n to. My main storage though is largely in plain sight, though protected by Windows ACLs to prevent other users of the computer (even though there aren't any now) from finding it via searching the drive or direct access.
I don't use TrueCrypt on a day-to-day basis because it's too much of a pain in the ass. If I want to fap, I want to fap, not frak around with keyfiles.
Sure, if I was a terrorist with seekrit plans for a bomb I would probably care about security more, but using SSL to protect my credit card is a far cry from encrypting porn.

Oh god, my mom particularly found it a few times back a few years ago. It was mainly in high school. One time I get called up to my room and my dad is putting together a bookshelf in my room and my mom is cleaning out from under my bed. She always used to make me so fucking mad because she was so OCD that should couldn't help but check every nook and cranny of my room to see if it needed cleaning. This made it exceptionally hard to hide things. Anyways, she was cleaning out from under my bed and had stacks upon stacks of the stuff she was just raking out from under there. Almost all furry stuff. Thank god none of it was gay, because lord knows that would've made it marginally more awkward. She was just laughing and said "What's all this? What's with all this cartoon porn? Why'd you have to use the good printer paper?" I didn't say a word to her, I just walked over, grabbed big armfuls of the stuff, and went out in the yard and burned it. I didn't go back into the house for most of the day out of pure shame.
A couple years later (I was under 18 the first time of course, do you think that that shit actually stops horny young teenagers? No, it's for legal reasons) after they had surely begun to just think that it was some sort of adolescent phase, I printed out one solitary picture late that night, and guess what? I left it on the fucking kitchen counter. The next day, I woke up and wondered where I had put it. I had become quite good at hiding stuff now you see. Figured I'd just hidden it too well. Happened before you know. So anyways, I go downstairs and mess around in the kitchen for a bit. I get ready to throw something away and see the crinkled up paper thrown in the trashcan. Oh shit. So later that day, my dad asks me, "son, why did you leave your porn laying on the kitchen counter?" I told him I thought it would be funny at the time.
There has been at least a dozen other little incidents involving them seeing the computer screen for a brief second, because my family has the nasty habit of busting into a room like Kramer and snooping around in all of the odd places you'd never expect them to look. I think they force it into their subconscious and forget about it though, because, from what I can tell, they haven't pieced together a pattern yet...
Thankfully they've never seen anything in pencil or pen, because that would make it obvious that I'd drawn it. I think that that would make it worse, to know that it had come from within my own dirty, dirty mind.

Few things in life feel worse
Trust me, I know the feeling well. My parents aren't that OCD or nosy, but they are instead the types of people that will remember an embarrassing incident, and reflect upon it later down the road. They are not discrete about anything, and often fail to see things from my point of view...
That was a while ago now...
Thankfully I've never even been suspected of being a furry. I'd never print any of it out. I usually keep it on my computer, and occasionally sync it to my iPod (double passcode locked)
I'm very sensitive about it, and I go to EXTREME lengths to ensure that it is never released...
Talk about living a double life eh'?
Most of us here know the feeling...

"Thankfully I've never even been suspected of being a furry. I'd never print any of it out. I usually keep it on my computer, and occasionally sync it to my iPod (double passcode locked)"
Well, I don't print it out any more, but the room with the computer at the time was very exposed, so to have any... privacy, with the stuff I printed it out I had to print it. Now, of course, I have all of the conveniences that allow me to go through the fandom in private.
"Talk about living a double life eh'?"
Fortunately for me, I'm used to keeping various areas of my life well segregated. I keep life with my family completely separate from my "friends" (I haven't met many people in RL who aren't fucking douchebags, these "friends" included, so they're "friends" in the sense that I'm somewhat stuck with them and I use them for entertainment). My friends don't even know what anyone in my family looks like or their names. I keep both of those completely separated from the fandom, and there are numerous other things I keep separate from this and everything else. Most of all, I keep my real self and personality separated from the entire outside world...
