When I tried to visit one of the other threads like female a script or something was trying to download a virus into my computer.  It's an advertisement that does this and I think it's either a flash or a javascript.  please recommend of checking

Looks like there is a rogue ad that forces a dialog pop-up and complete page navigation away from Fchan in an attempt to lure the person to install bogus anti-mal/virus software. Definitely a trap page, likely if someone clicks on anything, yes or no, it will try to install something...

I'm getting similar, where it's doing a complete page redirect for any of the art pages.

My ouija board is currently broken, can you give any specifics ? like what the ad says or looks like before you click on anything ?

What browsers are y'all running? I'm using Firefox with ABP and I'm having no such problems form either of fchan's host.

I'm using firefox with ABP and I just had that happen going to one of the boards. I noticed one of the animated ad banners said "The Youtube of porn is here," but I don't think the second one even displayed before a popup spontaneously opened itself, resized the main window, and redirected me to
http//gloriousantivirus20/...
(don't go there, obviously)
which pretends to look like the My Computer window with a series  of those 'omg-ur-totally-infected-install-this-or-else' dialogue boxes that interrupts you if you attempt to close the window or leave.

the javascript also popped up in Opera, luckily you can tell Opera to stop executing scripts on a page.

please get rid of whatever is doing that.

Alright, thanks for the infos. I've gotten enough data on here and in IRC that the host should be able to pinpoint the exact problem. Until that has happened I've temporarly disabled the ads.

When I realized I was being redirected to a dangerous site, I powered off my computer to try to stop any malware from getting onto my system.  Then I ran my Norton application; it found nothing.  But I did notice that it said it received an update about the same time.  The next day, while visiting a totally unrelated site, my firefox suddenly tried to redirect me to that bogus "personal scanner" again.

That means I have a trojan on my system.  I got it from the virus here.  And Norton did not find it during the scan.  I suspect that the malware told Norton it was okay when it loaded the trojan, and Nortan has accepted it.

Or you're making shit up, since the only way you could've gotten a virus from this through firefox is by actually running the executable the redirect tried to make you download.

Not the first time this site has been peddling malware.  I sometimes wonder... But given the half assed way this place is run, I suppose it could be an accident.

You have no clue whatsoever how advertising online works. Ads themselves are provided by a third-party, like Google AdSense, AdBrite or similar. These provide the interfaces for clients to set up ads, configuration of those, payment flow, etc. They also provide an interface for advertisement carrying sites like fchan, which allow those sites to select the dimensions and types of ads (text, image) they want to display. Both of these things are largely automated.

The crux is the interface to the clients as they get to pretty much define HTML themselves which is then to be delivered on other sites. All advertising intermediaries have some sort of filtering on that to block too obvious abuse. However not all of them are of the same quality. Now you could say "Well gee, just choose one that has better filtering!" However that isn't possible, since many advertising intermediaries won't allow porn-related sites to use them.

As such the only thing fchan can do is keep an eye on things and report to the intermediary if a specific ad slipped through their filtering. Which is also why action on these things isn't very fast, since without knowing exactly which ad is problematic, it is impossible to report it.

TL;DR: Look how dumb you are.

Sometime's its a flash animation that does that and has a virus/trojan hidden inside of it.  Plus it can be Javascript too.  Java itself on your computer won't load cuz its a simple it can load without the java client.

In my opinion who said that norton accepted the trojan as an okay.  Don't be talkin out your ass unless you completely know what you are talking about.  I perfer you get AVG, F-secure, Kaspersky, or Nod32 for your system.

I have 8 years worth of experience with computers and servers.  How do you figure?  Gee I have been working on computers since I was 12 years old.  And I'm 20 now.

Never ever test a web master's skills onto you're own :D

I never had that warning, i use Firefox with Adblock Plus and Noscript extension.
Its kinda restrictive but at least its a way to make sure that YOU can decide what runs on your machine.

Don't worry...

The whole entire site of Fchan is a virus to the furry community.
