If you could biologically change into a "furry furry" would you? and how much would you change?

also what sacrifices would you not be willing to make, like becoming sterile, erectile disfuntion, limited animal choices, limited color choices, chance of death, etc.

elaborate.

I would think you would have to consider the social ramifications as well. What does the general population think of these half animal people? Not to mention how would the people close to you take it? Also cost this would undoubtedly be very pricey. There's also religious arguments, but lets not go that far.

From a purely physical standpoint I would give it a total yes. I think I would go so far as to risk a small chance of death, be willing to go through a painful procedure, and maybe some small side-effects/abnormalities as long as they were very minor and manageable. That's about where the gains stop outweighing the costs for me form a physical stand point.

Unfortunately though this is not a survival-of-the-fittest world where your newly gained physical abilities/senses would count for a lot more than they would in the real world. No, in the really world having something like this done would be for little more than physical appearance. Unless your profession, day-to-day life, or other factors such as joining the military perhaps encouraged you too. Unless it became very common just going out in public would draw attention. Hardcore bodymodders freak most people out enough, what would this do?

So, form a realistic stand point I'd be leaning toward no. Even if the price didn't put me off right away; being a humanoid-fox would not help me much in what I do. I would still be me just awesomer looking. What do I say to the people around me? "I went through all of this because it looked cool?"

I'm very eager to hear other furrys have to say on this though.

No.

Although I will admit that I find the concept of having horns hilarious.
That and a bunch of freaky looking animal people walking around would be a pretty delicious source of hilarity/WTF-ery.

Id do it. (being that id be a Black anthro wolf) if people dont like it they will get used to it. the first yiff i saw freaked me out ......then 1 mnute later i was used to it and well i wont go into detail bout what i did....  :/

i am also interested in how would it be done? i have actually spent some time on the designs for a robotic tail at the least (how will it be controlled? IF they can make a rat/ R/C car cyborg(they have) then they will figure something out!) .... bring about the thought that maybe you could do temporary detachable things like say a flat metal port on the tail bone that wouldn't interfere with human clothing, activities, etc. that you could lock robotic tail onto (with either fake or real hair on a sort of life support...

if you took the full body genetic alteration route then you have to have your DNA altered in one cell then that cell would be used to make a clone of you (as a furry) after which they would transfer you memories.(the moral problem with this is if you copied the memories then the original you would experience death (ITS LITERALLY SUICIDE, only a furry copy of you would live on)). a transfer of the actual brain would be needed to avoid this. you cant just surgically alter yourself like plastic surgery cause there would be to much that your body would reject and you would look weird and get sick with a rotting tail snout and ears etc. hanging off you. plus a change in DNA doesn't spread throughout the body like it does in the cartoons. it would have to start at the source (fertilized egg in the womb)

sorry for rambling!

also ever see the episode of south park where kyle become tall and black and his dad becomes a dolphin via plastic surgery? watch it and you will see whats wrong with the surgery option(they would do a better job in the real world but the idea is there)

No changes for me thank you. I take pride in being a puny little human, as of all my fake characters have been. IT'S THE CLAN WAY (lol)

I've been thinking about this since I saw the Dr. Who episode "Gridlock" (10th Doctor).

I suppose I'd do it. It's basically a step-up from fursuiting, right? It's a fursuit you'd wear EVERYWHERE.

People react diffrently to fursuits. Kids LOVE them, adults may or may-not be amused.

But you may get mean looks, and some fucked up comments, but that happens ANYWAY. Now you'll get your tail yanked (and some hate crimes, I'm SURE). You'll get love at conventions, and nods of respect from other furries. We've all dealt with harrasement in real life anyway with human skin.

I suppose the BIGGEST personal drawback is if in a few years, you got the urge to change your species... Rich furries could do it, but the rest of us would need to make DAMN sure about our fursona.

Bah, only if I get seriously deformed (by an accident of some sort) and only if I can serve as a test bed for new technologies (medical, genetic, cyborg...).

If furries were real, they'd end up in the same ballpark as pets.

Meaning quicker chances of being euthenized, spayed, and being shot with an air rifle by the old man in the neighborhood.

This thread was interesting. Look what you did. Rule 25 in action.

Can we get back on topic? This thread still has plenty of good discussion in it.

This is science fiction. You can change the DNA in every cell in the future with a device like the one on that episode of Star Gate (one of the later series).

Assuming such a device was developed for use in fixing genetic flaws/diseases it would be very difficult to use it to make a drastic change like changing a species. Genetic diseases are many orders of magnitude easier to find and understand (effectively flipping a genetic switch the right way) than swapping around the 50% of differing DNA between you and a fox and having the patient not die.

But being a werewolf would be better (the non-Hollywood type where you retain sanity and don't look like a guy in a gorilla suit). Get to keep interacting with humans and be a furry.

I think gene therapy is actually going to be one of the more interesting aspects of medical research in the next 20-30 years.  There has already been some exciting progress made and it is a field that has huge potential for its medical applications.  Many of the worst diseases facing humans have roots in genetic heredity and predisposition and attacking them from a gene modification stance is pretty neat.

That, and gene therapy taken to the highest level will give us furries, immortality, and Khan.  Fire up the Botany Bay and get the island ready Doctor Moreau, here we come! :D
